It’s the feeling every Indian admires about driving and driving something that’ll still be running through the generations when everything else around it has given up. 1. Toyota Land Cruiser FJ – Toyota’s Upcoming Launches

The Land Cruiser FJ has been launched in Thailand, giving us a brief idea of what the Indian-spec FJ looks like. The design is unmistakably retro-modern with a boxy silhouette, squared-off body panels, flared wheel arches, thick edge cladding, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, and chunky all-terrain tyres. It shouts off-road from every angle.
The FJ is a 5-seater SUV that is more than 4.6m long. As for features, it comes with 7 airbags, an ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, dual-zone climate control, TPMS, and additional off-road aids. But the engine is somewhat of a letdown. It gets the 2.7-litre petrol engine (164 bhp & 245 Nm) from the Fortuner, mated to a 6-speed AT and a 4WD drivetrain as standard. Toyota must consider this, how much Indians love the 2.8-litre diesel, and could offer it in the Indian spec.
We can expect the price to be around Rs 36 lakh to Rs 45 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Reports suggest the Land Cruiser FJ could launch in the second half of 2028, which is a long way off, and it could compete with the Kodiaq Lounge, the Citroën C5 Aircross, and its own sibling, the Fortuner.

2. Toyota Fortuner Facelift

Toyota Fortuner, the vehicle that doesn’t really need an introduction in India. It’s the car that sells more units than many vehicles that cost half its price. It’s a status symbol, a family workhorse, and an off-roader all rolled into one. But the current model has been around since 2015, with a mid-life refresh in 2021, and it was starting to show its age, especially on the inside.
But now, the muscular new bumper could make the Fortuner look even more commanding than before. The rear could get a cleaner, more contemporary look to match. But the real magic would be on the inside: the old 8-inch infotainment screen could be replaced by a crisp 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the analogue instrument cluster could make way for a fully digital unit. A wireless charger, an electronic parking brake, and a clutter-free centre console could make an appearance, too. ADAS, a feature the current model notably lacks, is expected to feature in the new version.
Toyota is expected to retain the trusted 2.8-litre turbodiesel (producing around 204 PS and 500 Nm of torque), along with a mild-hybrid system for improved efficiency and a smoother driving experience. A 2.7-litre petrol option is also likely to remain for buyers who prefer petrol. The Fortuner facelift is expected to launch in India in the second half of 2026, with prices likely starting around Rs 39 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and going up to Rs 61lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the top-end 4WD variant.

3. Toyota Hyryder Facelift – Toyota’s Upcoming Launches

When the Hyryder first arrived in 2022, it brought something special to the compact SUV space: Toyota’s legendary strong hybrid technology, which delivers a claimed mileage of nearly 28 kmpl, in a country where petrol prices are a constant topic of conversation.
Now, it’s expected that the refresh will arrive in late 2026. The facelift will bring visual updates to the front and rear of the car, giving it a sharper appearance to stand up to a new generation of rivals such as the Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, and the updated Volkswagen Taigun. All of this is happening in the mid-size SUV segment. But now ADAS is expected to finally make it onto the Hyryder, an omission that has been a sore point for potential buyers for years. It is also expected to get a larger infotainment screen and an electric tailgate. The interior will also see refinements to stay competitive in a segment where the feature war never really ends.
On the powertrain side, Toyota is expected to continue offering the excellent 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and strong hybrid petrol options. The strong hybrid’s 28 kmpl claim remains class-leading, and that won’t be disturbed. CNG will also likely remain an option for buyers looking to reduce running costs further. The facelift is expected to start at around Rs 13 lakh for the base mild-hybrid variants, rising to Rs 24.5 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the top-spec strong hybrid.

4. Innova Hycross Hybrid

This one is going to be emotional for many, as Toyota will discontinue the Innova Crysta in early 2027. It’s not just a car in India; families have grown up in it. Its 2.4-liter diesel, rugged body-on-frame build, and near-indestructible reliability have made it the go anywhere. Still, the good news is the company is actively working on a more affordable, stripped-down version of the Innova Hycross hybrid internally referred to as the 840D, specifically designed to carry forward the Crysta’s role in the market.
The idea is simple: take the Hycross’s excellent 2.0-liter petrol-strong hybrid system, which delivers a real-world mileage of around 14-15 kmpl, and pair it with basic features that buyers need, which will bring the price down to a level fleet operators and pragmatic family buyers can actually afford. Currently, the base Hycross hybrid starts at Rs 26.30 lakh, around Rs 7.5- 8 lakh more than the Crysta. That gap needs to close significantly for the plan to work, and Toyota is reportedly focused on exactly that. A more affordable Hycross hybrid is expected sometime in 2026. Pricing for this variant is expected to start somewhere in the Rs 22 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

5. Toyota YMC-EV – Toyota’s Upcoming Launches

Ebella Cruiser Concept Used For Reference
Here’s where things get really interesting. Toyota and Maruti Suzuki have had a productive partnership for years. The Glanza, Taisor, Hyryder, and Rumion are all products of this collaboration. But now Maruti Suzuki is developing an all-electric seven-seater MPV codenamed YMC, built on the same Heartect-e skateboard platform that underpins the Maruti e-Vitara and Toyota’s Urban Cruiser EBella electric SUV. Toyota will launch its own version of the YMC with its characteristic design tweaks, think subtle differences in the front grille, bumper design, headlight clusters, and interior treatment to give it a distinctly Toyota character.
The Toyota YMC-EV is expected to carry the same battery options as its Maruti sibling. It will be available with two battery pack options, 49 kWh and 61 kWh, both paired with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The smaller battery is claimed to deliver up to 440 km, while the larger one could offer an impressive 543 km on a single charge.
When it launches, the Toyota YMC-EV will directly compete with the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the upcoming VinFast VF MPV 7. Toyota’s version is expected to arrive in late 2027 or early 2028, likely priced between Rs 19 and 27 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). And with Toyota’s brand trust, after-sales network, and the Maruti alliance’s manufacturing scale behind it, this could be one of the most well-rounded electric MPVs to arrive in India when it does.
