Tata Sierra In Trouble?

It has been confirmed that Tata will launch the Sierra EV in Q2 of 2027, and rumours suggest that the electric SUV will get QWD (Quad Wheel Drive). And to rival the 4X4 Sierra, a new SUV will soon be introduced: none other than the Jeep Renegade.

For the past 2 years, there have been many rumours and speculations regarding the Jeep Renegade. Back in 2024, many industry sources suggested that Jeep would launch a more affordable and smaller SUV to expand its lineup by 2027. And now, as the year 2027 is getting closer, we believe it’s worth talking about this upcoming SUV. The Jeep Renegade is a mid-size SUV that is on sale in international markets and might just be a good contender in the highly competitive segment in India. This move will allow Jeep to cater to buyers who want a rugged and robust SUV at an affordable price tag. So, what exactly will the Jeep Renegade have to offer?

Jeep Renegade – What To Expect?

Well, as of now, it hasn’t been confirmed whether the Renegade will make it to India. However, we believe that the Renegade will be a great move from Jeep. Most Indians love SUVs with rugged and boxy styling, and the Renegade pulls it off quite well. The India-spec Renegade could offer features like a panoramic glass roof, powered driver seat, and ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, an ADAS suite and much more.

In terms of powertrain, we can expect to see engines from the Tata Sierra. That’s right! As Tata shares the Stellantis 2.0-litre diesel engine with the Compass and Safari, we can expect the Renegade to get the new 1.5-litre NA petrol and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine from the Sierra. Now, this totally depends on whether a deal between Jeep and Tata goes through, as both the 1.5-litre engines are owned solely by Tata. Another interesting factor is the inclusion of 4×4. According to previous speculation, the Renegade was expected to be offered with an electric powertrain and 4X4. This will also allow the Renegade to offer a fun off-road experience and compete with the Sierra EV, which is also supposed to get 4X4.

While none of these details has been confirmed, it will be interesting to see if Jeep goes through with this. We believe that the Renegade play a big role for Jeep. We expect the Renegade to be launched in 2027, with a starting price of around Rs 13 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The electric version with 4X4 could carry a price tag of around Rs 17 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
