Skoda Kylaq CNG

The Skoda Kylaq is the Czech automaker’s entry into India’s sub-4-metre SUV segment, with prices starting at around Rs 9.00 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It sits below the popular Kushaq and competes with rivals like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, and Hyundai Venue. In a short time, Skoda’s top-selling locally produced model in India has crossed 50,000 units within a year and contributed over 60% of the brand’s total sales, showing strong buyer demand. However, one area where it has felt a bit lacking is fuel efficiency. While the Kylaq delivers strong performance and impressive power, mileage hasn’t been its biggest strength, but that could soon change.

Skoda Kylaq CNG – Engine And Powertrain

The current Kylaq runs on a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine making 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.

For the CNG version, the same 1.0-litre TSI engine is expected to be adapted for bi-fuel use, meaning it can run on both petrol and CNG. Skoda already offers turbo-CNG powertrains in global markets on cars like the Octavia, Scala, and Citigo, so the technology exists within the group. However, the company is still evaluating whether its turbo engines can operate effectively with CNG fuel under Indian conditions. So, Skoda Auto India is actively working on a factory-fitted CNG option for the Kylaq. As for mileage, the CNG variant is expected to deliver around 21-23 km/kg, which would make daily running costs significantly lower than petrol.
Its rivals offer tech like dual-cylinder and underbody tanks, and Skoda could come up with something similiar for the Kylaq. The Octavia gets an underbody CNG configuration in global markets, but it remains unclear whether it will bring the same tech to India.

Features You Already Get

The regular Kylaq is already well-loaded. It gets LED projector headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen, a sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, front seat ventilation, and leatherette upholstery. It also holds a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating with 6 airbags as standard. The CNG variant will likely be offered in lower- to mid-trims, so some top-end features might be introduced in lower variants, but the core safety and comfort package is expected to remain.
