What is the Maruti Suzuki Hustler? Well, for starters, the Hustler belongs to the same Kei (lightweight) car family as the Wagon R. Whenever launched in India, this k-car could be introduced as an entry-level micro-SUV.  Back in 2024, we saw this unique car roaming on the streets of India. So, what does Hustler actually have to offer?

Looks-

At first glance, Hustler looks like a combination of two distinct Marutis: the S-Presso and the Jimny. Hustler over the seas features the tall-boy body stance and boxy design, alongside one of the most funky colour schemes in the industry. The side profile of the Hustler is identical to that of the Jimny. In addition, SUV-like design elements include the not-very-chunky body cladding. The front fascia of the Hustler features a round headlamp and a small, simple grille, whereas the rear of the compact Maruti features squared-off taillamps.  What else does it have to offer?

Interiors & Features-

The retro-modern and youthful design on the outside of the Hustler is also reflected on the inside. Inside the cabin, you get body-coloured elements around the infotainment system and dashboard. When launched in India, we can expect the 7-inch infotainment system to be derived from the S-Presso. Also, a unique bit could be the dash-mounted shifter, and with the flat floor, you can move easily from one end of the cabin to the other in tight spaces. For added practicality, the Hustler in Japan comes with plenty of small compartments and sliding front- and rear-facing seats to suit your convenience. The older Japanese Hustler had a hidden “grocery tray” under the passenger seat, similar to the Wagon R. This quirky feature could also be introduced in the Indian version of the Hustler. What else?

Powertrain-

In Japan, the Hustler comes equipped with a small 660 cc petrol engine. This engine is offered in NA and turbocharged versions producing 50 bhp and 64 bhp, respectively, and with mild-hybrid tech. But when launched in India, we can expect Hustler to share engines with other Maruti models like the S-Presso and Wagon R. From this, we can speculate that the Indian Hustler could get the 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines. In addition, there could be an optional AWD. With the speculated engine, this Maruti might get the 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.

Rivals-

Considering the SUV styling and compact size, the direct rivals to the Maruti Suzuki Hustler will be the Tata Punch and the Hyundai Exter. It’s also interesting to see how the Hustler performs against other well-known Maruti Suzuki models, including the Wagon R and Swift.

Expected Launch & Pricing-

There is no official word on the launch of the Hustler in the Indian market just yet. But considering the rapidly growing micro-SUV segment in India, Maruti will be looking forward to the launch of the Hustler soon. That said, we can expect the Hustler to be introduced in India by mid-2027. The automaker must be planning to position this launch between its affordable hatchbacks and its premium compact SUVs. Based on the position, the Hustler is expected to be priced between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
