Tata Safari Spotted!

We reported that the Safari EV is in the works, so you would expect the fresh spy shots to be of the EV. But you would be wrong! This Safari test mule shows no indications of an electric car. It gets the same alloy wheels and the same front grille as the current ICE model. So what is Tata hiding?

Tata has camouflaged the test mule, but despite that, we can spot that it looks exactly the same as the outgoing model. It isn’t a facelift, nor is it the EV counterpart. So all things indicate a change in powertrain.

What’s Changing?

All things point towards an AWD drivetrain. Tata has received a great response for the Harrier.ev QWD and would like to implement the same strategy for the ICE versions of the Harrier and Safari. Its main competitor, the XUV7XO, offers this option, so it only makes sense for the Safari to do the same.

The powertrain options will remain the same with the 1.5-litre turbo petrol and the 2.0-litre diesel. The same applies to the transmission options, with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AT expected. However, we expect the AWD to be offered only with the Diesel AT powertrain.

Tata Safari Spotted – Expected Pricing & Launch

The Safari is currently priced between Rs 15.79 lakh and Rs 31.86 lakh(on-road, Mumbai). While the lower variants would see no price revisions, you would have to pay a premium of around Rs 60,000 to Rs 75,000 for AWD on top trims.

Moreover, we could see it being launched by the end of this year. It will follow the launches of the Tiago facelift and Sierra.ev. This premium is worth it if you plan to take the Safari off-road. After all, it is an SUV, and it was long overdue for AWD.
