1. Maruti’s New Micro-SUV (Codenamed Y43) – Best Car Under Rs 8 Lakhs

India’s largest automaker has watched the micro-SUV segment grow at a staggering pace and decided it’s time to own it. Maruti Suzuki has started work on a new micro-SUV, internally codenamed Y43, which will directly rival the Tata Punch and the Hyundai Exter. This is a big deal. For years, the Punch has dominated the segment with minimal serious competition from Maruti, but that gap is now officially closing.
On the mechanical side, the new micro-SUV is expected to feature a 1.2L three-cylinder petrol engine with a mild-hybrid setup. It may also get an underbody dual CNG tank, in line with Maruti’s multi-powertrain approach. The model is likely to be based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, which underpins the Swift, Baleno, and Dzire. Transmission options are expected to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
Feature-wise, expect ventilated seats, a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, a flat-bottom steering wheel, automatic climate control, a fully digital instrument cluster, and 6 airbags. The Y43 price is expected to range from Rs 6 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) to Rs 10 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) across variants. Media reports suggest the Y43 will go on sale sometime in 2026-27.

2. Tata Tiago Facelift

The 2026 Tata Tiago facelift has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. Although the Tiago was updated in 2025, Tata now appears to be preparing another significant facelift for its entry-level hatchback.
Design changes are expected to be noticeable. At the front, the facelift may feature a slimmer grille, redesigned headlamps, and a new bumper. The rear could get a redesigned tailgate and new LED taillamps, while the side profile stays largely intact with newly styled alloys for a fresher look.
Inside, the upcoming facelift is expected to feature a larger touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch TFT instrument cluster, auto-dimming IRVMs, push-button start/stop, a 360-degree camera, rear AC vents, and a front centre armrest. On the powertrain side, the familiar 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol with CNG option is expected to continue. There’s also a possibility that Tata could add a 1.2L turbo-petrol engine, similar to what was done with the recently updated Punch. When launched, it is expected to be priced between Rs 5.45 lakh and Rs 9 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) , continuing its rivalry with the Maruti Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and Citroen C3. It is expected to launch in India around September 2026.

3. 2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno – Best Car Under Rs 8 Lakhs

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has always been one of those cars that quietly make sense. Good looks, great fuel efficiency, Maruti’s unbeatable service network, and strong resale value. It checks all the boxes. The 2026 facelift, currently in testing with spy shots already surfacing, is about addressing the one area where rivals have been gaining ground: technology and safety.
Inside, the most notable upgrade is expected to be a jump from the current 9-inch infotainment system to a 10.25-inch display, with a fully digital instrument cluster in top variants. Ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and the possible addition of a single-pane sunroof are all on the cards, features that rivals like the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz have offered for a while. Crucially, the 2026 Baleno is expected to bring six airbags as standard across more variants.
The 1.2-litre petrol engine continues, and an underbody CNG option could also make an appearance. Current pricing starts at Rs 7.03 lakh, and the facelift is expected to add only a modest Rs 15,000-20,000 to that price. With the festive season likely being the target launch window.

4. Renault Kwid Facelift

The Renault Kwid has always been a bit of a rule-breaker. An entry-level car that looked like a mini-SUV came with a digital instrument cluster when most rivals didn’t, and offered ground clearance that made potholes feel irrelevant. The upcoming facelift doubles down on all of this.
Spy shots have confirmed Y-shaped LED DRLs inspired by the latest Renault Duster, new front and rear bumpers, and a pentagonal headlamp design that gives the Kwid a sharper, more contemporary face. Inside, the headline upgrade is a larger infotainment screen, a new steering wheel design, and a revised instrument cluster on the safety front. Six airbags, ABS with EBD, and cruise control are expected to be part of the package, bringing the Kwid up to par with the Maruti Alto K10 in terms of safety.
The tried-and-tested 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine continues, delivering 67 bhp and 91 Nm of torque, with a possible increase in power in the updated version. It returns a fuel efficiency of 21–22 kmpl and is priced between Rs 5.04 lakh and Rs 7.02 lakh. The expected launch window is November 2026, and a full electric version of the Kwid EV is also in the pipeline for a later date.
