Only Mahindra SUV To Offer 22 Kmpl Mileage? » MotorOctane

Mahindra has been popular for offering rugged SUVs that are both capable off-road and fun to drive. However, the brand has never really been popular for impressive mileage, and we believe the brand hasn’t taken a step towards offering better fuel efficiency. However, Mahindra may soon launch an SUV with India’s favourite engine – CNG, which will offer great fuel economy. But which SUV are we talking about? Here’s everything you need to know!

Well, if you haven’t guessed it yet, we are talking about the XUV 3XO. The Mahindra XUV 3XO is known for its spacious interior, best-in-class performance and safety. However, it hasn’t been the most fuel-efficient in its segment. Soon, things may change. Industry sources suggest that Mahindra may be working on a CNG option for the XUV 3XO. With the growing demand for CNG, this move from Mahindra would work very well in their favour. This would make the XUV 3XO the only SUV to offer 5 different powertrain options: a 1.2-litre MPFi turbo petrol, a 1.2-litre TGDi turbo petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel engine, an EV option and a new CNG powertrain. If Mahindra actually offer the CNG powertrain, it will even one-up the Nexon with the range of engines on offer. So, how exactly will Mahindra execute this?

Well, Mahindra offers two petrol engines with the XUV 3XO – a 1.2-litre MPFi turbo petrol engine (110bhp & 200Nm) and a 1.2-litre TGDi turbo petrol engine (129bhp & 230Nm). The TGDi engine is the most powerful in its segment, and we believe that the brand will offer the CNG option with the MPFi engine. We are speculating that the CNG version will offer around 22kmpl mileage as the MPFi engine on its own offers a claimed mileage of around 19kmpl. But having the smallest boot in the segment (295 litres), how will Mahindra fit the CNG cylinder into the car?

Well, it is possible that Mahindra may pick a page out of Tata’s book and bring in a similar dual-cylinder CNG tech, to avoid compromising on boot space and practicality of the SUV. It will likely get the same features as the XUV 3XO, which include a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS and much more. We expect the CNG version of the SUV to be launched by late 2026 or early 2027.
