Maruti YMC – Maruti’s New 7-Seater

The YMC (codename) will be Maruti Suzuki’s second electric offering in India. It will directly challenge the Kia Carens Clavis EV in the electric MPV space. This is a big deal. Because while other brands have been chasing the premium EV buyer, Maruti is targeting the middle-class family that needs space for five to seven people, wants low running costs, and, above all, wants a brand they can trust for the next ten years without worry.
Unlike many EVs that are adapted from existing petrol or diesel models, the YMC is being developed on a dedicated platform, the HEARTECT-e, which underpins the e Vitara, ensuring an EV-first design with a flat floor, wider stance, and better weight distribution. The design is expected to feature an upright, boxy stance with rectangular headlamps, a blacked-out grille with chrome accents, and a practical, family-friendly body shape. Think of it as something that looks immediately recognisable as a Maruti, clean, modern, and approachable.

Features

The YMC is expected to feature a tech-focused cabin with a dual-screen setup (a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster) and premium soft-touch materials. Key features include ventilated front seats, a fixed glass sunroof, a 10-way powered driver’s seat, wireless charging, and Level 2 ADAS.

Given that the e-Vitara has already received a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, the YMC, which rides on the same platform, will likely aim for equally strong safety credentials. Expect six airbags as standard, and electronic stability control.

Maruti’s New 7-Seater – Battery And Range

Reports suggest the YMC will be available with two battery pack options, 49 kWh and 61 kWh, both paired with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The smaller battery is claimed to deliver up to 440 km, while the larger one could offer an impressive 543 km on a single charge.
The YMC will also have a Toyota counterpart, which will offer the same set of battery packs but come with Toyota’s signature styling cues, reflecting the ongoing Maruti-Toyota partnership that has already given us the Grand Vitara and Hyryder, Fronx and Taisor, and eVitara and eBella, etc.

Why This Car Matters

Here is what makes the Maruti YMC genuinely special, unlike most EVs in India. Every other electric MPV in India right now is the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the Vinfast VF MPV 7. It is either expensive, a relatively new brand in India, or lacks the service network to back up the ownership experience in smaller towns and cities.
With Maruti’s traditional cost advantages, the YMC could offer more value than rivals, especially for buyers looking for a three-row configuration and strong after-sales support. When you buy a Maruti, you know that a service centre is never far away. That peace of mind is worth a lot, especially in a country where EV service infrastructure is still developing.

Maruti’s New 7-Seater – Expected Price And Launch

YMC could be priced between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), making it a serious rival to the Kia Carens Clavis EV and potentially one of the most affordable 7-seater electric MPVs in the country due to its (BaaS) model, which can further decrease the cost up to 5 lakh. While an earlier September 2026 launch was planned, Maruti’s experience with e-Vitara production delays suggests the YMC could be pushed to late 2026 or early 2027.
