Next-Gen Alcazar

The Hyundai Alcazar, a 3-row, family-friendly SUV born directly from the Creta’s DNA, is reportedly set for a full next-generation overhaul. The Alcazar is essentially a long-wheelbase version of the Creta, with a 150 mm longer wheelbase and an overall body stretched by 200 mm to accommodate that all-important third row. Since its launch in 2021, it has served families well. But now Hyundai has already begun work on the third-generation Creta, codenamed SX3, which is planned to launch in India in 2027. And where the Creta goes, the Alcazar usually follows that.

Here’s where things get interesting. There is growing speculation that the next-generation model might not carry the Alcazar name. Hyundai has a habit of renaming or repositioning its products globally. With a new platform and an elevated positioning, the brand might want a fresh identity to match.

Design And Dimensions

If the next-gen Alcazar follows the direction of the upcoming Creta, it should be a noticeably different vehicle in terms of design language. The third-gen Creta is expected to feature a split headlamp setup inspired by Hyundai’s global models, such as the Ioniq 5, with pixel-style LED daytime running lights stretching across the front and large wheel arches. The Alcazar, as expected, would likely carry a similar futuristic design with a more commanding road presence.

The third-gen Creta is likely to be based on the new K3 platform, the same architecture that underpins the new Kia Seltos, and is expected to grow in proportions. A next-gen Alcazar on this platform would logically be even larger. Dimension-wise, expect the length to comfortably exceed 4,600 mm, with a significantly longer wheelbase to finally make the third row feel less like an afterthought.

The current Alcazar already offers a reasonably well-equipped cabin, but the next generation is expected to raise the bar considerably. Speculated features for a next-gen model include a trinity display setup, a panoramic glass roof, multi-zone climate control, Level 2+ ADAS, improved second-row captain seats with full recline, and ventilated rear seats. If Hyundai is serious about competing with the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV7XO, the interior quality will need to be a genuine step up.

Engine And Powertrain

This is perhaps the most exciting part. There is potential for a strong hybrid powertrain likely powered by a combination of a 1.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor.  Furthermore, conventional options will likely carry over, 1.5-litre NA petrol (113 bhp / 144 Nm) with manual or IVT for smooth everyday driving, 1.5-litre turbo petrol (158 bhp / 253 Nm) with DCT for strong performance. 1.5-litre diesel (114 bhp / 250 Nm) with manual or automatic transmission offers strong torque and great efficiency for long drives. But the real headline could be a strong hybrid variant that offers improved fuel efficiency for families doing long highway runs, which is exactly what the Alcazar’s buyer does.
