Mahindra Thar Goes Electric!
Mahindra Thar to come in a new electric Avatar! With the shift towards electric mobility, Mahindra isn’t just updating the Thar; they are completely rethinking it. The concept version was showcased in 2023, and the electric version can be expected soon. The Thar.e blends traditional off-road DNA with modern EV technology, promising a future where sustainability meets adventure without compromise.

Mahindra Thar Electric – Interior
The current Thar is fun, but let’s expect the Thar.e to be even better. The vehicle is expected to feature the following.
- Large touchscreen infotainment system
- Fully digital instrument cluster
- Clean and minimalistic dashboard layout
- Features like OTA updates, 5G connectivity, and a 360-degree camera
- ADAS Suite
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support
- Smartphone connectivity via BlueSense App

Design and Aesthetics
The concept gives us hints on what the Thar.e would look like. The vehicle could sport a square LED headlight setup and the signature EV-style grille. On the rear, it could get a vertical LED taillamp with chunky skidplates underneath. The Thar.e moves away from the old-school ladder frame and shifts to Mahindra’s INGLO-P1 skateboard EV platform. That means, the vehicle would get more space, better proportions and a five-door layout, making the Thar a lot more usable for daily life, not just weekends. adventures.

Mahindra Thar Electric – Performance and Capability
Mahindra hasn’t revealed the specs yet, but we can expect a few things. The vehicle could come with a dual-motor setup with proper AWD, matching the Thar’s identity. The battery pack could be 59kWh, 70kWh, or 79kWh (250 bhp max power). The range should fall somewhere between 400 and 500 km in the real world. The expected ground clearance is around 300mm and could get a strong underbody, thanks to the skateboard platform. The vehicle could get a better approach and departure angle.
The Thar.e could be priced around rupees 25 Lakh to 30 lakh on road in Mumbai. The vehicle is expected to arrive by 2029. The Thar, as a lifestyle SUV, has huge demand in our market, and the electric version could broaden the choice even further. The vehicle would go head-to-head with the Tata Harrier EV, Tata Curvv EV, and the Mahindra BE6/XEV 9E, but the Thar.e could offer more off-road capability and a more utility-oriented approach.
