The Current Nexon

The Tata Nexon prices start from Rs 8.60 lakh and go up to Rs 16.34 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), making it one of the best value propositions in its segment. For that money, you get a 5-star Bharat NCAP-rated car with six airbags as standard, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, JBL sound system, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and even Level 2 ADAS on top variants.

The Nexon is offered with petrol, diesel, and CNG powertrains, and even the CNG variant retains a practical 321-litre boot, thanks to its smart underfloor cylinder placement, a genuinely clever engineering touch. It also held its place among India’s top 5 best-selling SUVs in March 2026, which clearly shows how strongly the market continues to trust and prefer this car. For buyers who still prefer the current generation’s design, it remains a solid choice, and with the right negotiation, dealers may offer attractive discounts, making it even more appealing. Plus, being an already well-established product in the market adds to its reliability and overall peace of mind for buyers.

Next-Gen Nexon – So What Exactly Is Coming In 2027?

Here is where things get interesting. Tata Motors has officially begun work on the next-generation Nexon, internally codenamed “Garud”, and it is expected to hit showrooms around 2027 or later this year. The Nexon was first launched in 2017, so a 2027 timeline means the current generation would have served for nearly a full decade, which is quite long in automotive lifecycles. The next-gen Nexon is expected to move to Tata’s newer ARGOS platform, which should provide a stronger, more reliable structural base than the current model, whose underpinnings trace back to the older Indica-derived platform. Along with that, it is likely to feature a significantly improved ADAS suite and updated safety tech, aligning it with newer Tata models like the Tata Curvv and Tata Harrier EV, as well as a completely overhauled exterior and interior design.
So, if you’re not in a hurry, waiting could make more sense. The newer platform, improved technology, and overall refinements could make the next-gen Nexon a much more future-ready package.

Next-Gen Nexon – What About The Engines?

The next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to continue with its current petrol and CNG powertrains, along with the diesel option, which remains a preferred choice for its strong fuel efficiency.
At the same time, Tata Motors could introduce a petrol-hybrid option to improve fuel efficiency and broaden its appeal. This becomes more feasible with the newer ARGOS platform, which is expected to support electrified powertrains, including hybrids. If that happens, the Tata Nexon would offer one of the most diverse powertrain line-ups in the segment, with petrol, CNG, and possibly hybrid options, catering to a wide range of buyers. This expanded range could further strengthen its position and make the Nexon one of the most well-rounded and compelling choices among compact SUVs.

Should You Expect Big Price Changes?

A completely new-generation model almost always comes with a price increase, and given the platform updates, revised design, and updated safety structure needed to meet BS7 norms, expect the 2027 Nexon to start anywhere from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh higher than the current model across variants.
