The Innova has been Toyota’s best-selling model, not just this year, but for decades. It is the perfect mixture of practicality and reliability, making it a solid choice if you are in the market for an MPV. However, demand for one of its variants appears to have declined, prompting it to discontinue its top petrol variant. Here is what you should know about it.

Innova Hycross GX(O) Discontinued?

News of the Innova Crysta’s discontinuation has saddened many Toyota loyalists. The Crysta has been India’s MPV of choice, so what will fill the void? The Hycross is the obvious answer, but it is much more expensive than the Crysta, especially the higher variants. And Toyota seemed to have found a solution.
Our sources suggest that the GX(O) variant could be discontinued soon, with dealerships asking customers to wait for the big update. The GX(O) is the top variant for the petrol (non-hybrid) powertrain. From then onwards, it only gets a hybrid powertrain. Moreover, the gap between the petrol and hybrid variants is almost Rs 7 lakh. So, Toyota could be looking to narrow the gap between the Hycross petrol and hybrid models, while also narrowing the gap between the hybrid and the Crysta.

Innova Hycross GX(O) Discontinued – What’s The Reason?

The dealership has suggested that Toyota is cooking something new and will stop production of the GX(O). Our speculation is that the hybrid could now get cheaper and more accessible. So while the purchasing cost will still be relatively high, the ownership cost will be lower. Toyota could offer the hybrid at a similiar price point of around Rs 26-28 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), which is similiar to the price of a mid-variant Crysta. But it is all at a speculative stage for now, and Toyota could simply be discontinuing the GX(O) due to low demand.
The GX(O) costs almost Rs 2 lakh more than the base GX. So, for Rs 2 lakh, you get a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, a larger infotainment screen, and front parking sensors. For some, this premium doesn’t justify the features it offers. That could be a key reason for the drop in demand.

What About The Crysta?

We know for sure that the Crysta will be discontinued. Toyota is reportedly working on a cheaper hybrid version to replace it. Currently, the base hybrid variant is as expensive as the top Crysta model. And a cheaper hybrid variant would make it more accessible. You get lower running costs than the Crysta diesel, but still get the modern amenities of the Hycross. It could be the perfect solution. And the discontinuation of the GX(O) variant further fuels the rumours. For more information, contact your nearest Toyota dealer.
