Tata To Help THIS Brand To Make Sierra Rival? » MotorOctane

Tata has already launched the Sierra in India; however, it now seems that Tata might help one of its partners to develop a new SUV that will likely rival the Sierra. Confused? Here’s everything that’s going on in the Indian automotive scene.

Tata-Stellantis Partnership

Every automaker is currently busy announcing plans for the upcoming models in this financial year. Meanwhile, a new rumour has surfaced, hinting that Tata is looking to share its new platform with its partner brand. The partner brand is none other than Jeep, from the Stellantis group.

This information came as Jeep recently announced that it will develop a new SUV based on Tata’s platform. This will mainly be done to keep manufacturing costs low. However, the brand has not yet revealed which platform could be used. However, amid the Tata-Stellantis partnership, we expect the platform to be ARGOS, which can be future-proof for Jeep too, as it offers AWD and electrified models. The ARGOS platform is currently underpinned by the Tata Sierra.

Jeep already announced that it will launch a new SUV for the Indian market in 2027. But which exact model it would be, and in which segment it would be positioned, have not yet been revealed. However, if Jeep uses Tata’s Argos platform, we could expect a new SUV that sits alongside the Tata Sierra. And Jeep, being Jeep, will surely try to launch the SUV with 4X4 capability, and will hence give tough competition to the Sierra in the coming time.

What To Expect From This New Jeep SUV

At present, Jeep’s India lineup includes the Compass, Meridian, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. However, looking at the Indian market, Jeep would like to launch an SUV positioned alongside or below the Compass, due to buyers’ budget constraints. And the mid-size SUV segment includes the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, Toyota HyRyder, and others.

That said, if Jeep plans to introduce a new SUV in this space, we can expect the model to be 4.3m long, which is nearly 100mm less than the Jeep Compass, and similar to the Tata Sierra.

While there is little to no information revealed about the upcoming SUV, we believe the model will have a rugged stance and a muscular profile, offering a strong road presence. Another key aspect will be the inclusion of a 4X4 drivetrain, which will help the model differentiate and even compete with the Mahindra Thar Roxx and Force Gurkha. Talking about the features, expect it to offer modern tech, off-road features, and safety tech.

Powertrain-wise, either Jeep could go old-school and offer the 2.0-litre diesel engine; however, it could also offer the 1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.5-litre turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engines from the Sierra itself. Apart from that, Jeep could also go a step ahead and even plan an electric powertrain.

Talking about the launch, the new SUV is expected to be launched by 2027-2028, we expect the price to range between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). More details about the SUV are expected to be released as we near the model’s launch, or till when we spot some test mules.
