With the surge in SUVs, you may expect the MPV segment to die out. But that is not the case as the Ertiga remains on top of sales charts every month. Interestingly, expensive luxury MPVs like the Vellfire and MG M9 have become prevalent on Indian roads. Hyundai may have realised the potential in a luxury MPV and is planning to bring one to India soon. Here is what you should know about it.

Hyundai Staria – What To Expect?

The Hyundai Staria is a whopping 5.23-metre-long MPV, making it significantly longer than the Toyota Vellfire. Despite its vast dimensions, the Staria still doesn’t look ungainly. The quirky design language, with elements like split headlights, massive window panes, and “Ioniq-like” pixel taillights, makes it stand out. It has been on sale in the US for a long time and we expect it to come to India in the near future.
Moreover, the 5-star ANCAP ratings suggest that the Staria is a safe place to be in. But if you are planning to buy the Staria, the cabin experience will be one of your priorities, so let’s find out what’s special inside.

Cabin

The Staria is available as a 7-seater, 9-seater and 11-seater internationally. Thanks to its 3.27 m long wheelbase, the interior space is ample enough to seat all passengers comfortably. However, don’t expect a large boot with all the seats in place. The abundance of high-quality materials and humongous windows elevates the cabin experience for passengers. It also gets a lot of amenities like –
- Dual sunroof
- 10.25-inch digital driver’s display
- Ventilation/heating function for the 1st and 2nd row
- 64-colour ambient lighting
- 8-inch infotainment screen
- 360-degree camera
- Boss-mode for the co-driver seat
- An ADAS suite
- Electric sliding doors
- Power tailgate
- Bose sound system

Hyundai Staria – Powertrain

The global-spec model is offered with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel. Gearbox options include a 6-speed MT and an 8-speed AT. The diesel also gets AWD. The Indian-spec is expected to get the 2.2-litre diesel as an option. It is important to note that Hyundai is developing hybrid technology for other models, and the Staria could also benefit from it in the near future.

Expected Pricing & Launch

Hyundai has promised 26 models by 2030, and the Staria will be one of them. The Staria will be launched by the tail end of this timeline, around 2029 and 2030. By that time, the new-gen Staria could be unveiled globally, and that model could be introduced in India with more features, better tech and a sharper look.
It is expected to be priced around Rs 65-70 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Its main competitor will be the Kia Carnival. It will be the perfect alternative for those seeking a middle ground between the Vellfire and the Carens Clavis. Unfortunately, if you are one of these people, you could have to wait quite some time.
