New-Gen Tata Harrier – What To Expect? » MotorOctane

The Tata Harrier has been one of Tata’s most ambitious projects. When new, it was the talk of the town due to its JLR-derived platform. Not to mention, it was quite unique, offering the best practicality and, arguably, the best looks at that price point. But now sales have dried up, despite constant updates. And now, Tata is suspected to be working on something bigger.

Tata Harrier Facelift – What To Expect?

Rumours suggest that Tata could be ditching the OmegaArc platform with the next-gen Harrier. The Harrier is now expected to be based on the ARGOS platform, the one used in Sierra. With this platform, you can expect better packaging, safety, and compatibility with future tech.

The design has always been Harrier’s key point. So Tata won’t mess up the recipe with the new-gen, but bring subtle tweaks to keep it fresh and in line with Tata’s design language. You can expect the next-gen model to flaunt similar road presence.

Features

The Harrier is as feature-packed as they get. However, the ICE version still lags behind its EV counterpart. So Tata could now add more features, such as 7 airbags, a 540-degree camera, and its new TiDAL architecture (an electronic architecture to accommodate high-tech features). Some of the other expected features include –

  • 14.5-inch infotainment screen
  • Level-2+ ADAS
  • 10.25-inch digital infotainment
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Electric tailgate
  • Powered front seats with ventilation and memory function
  • Front and rear wireless charging
  • Cooled glovebox

New-Gen Tata Harrier – Powertrain

The outgoing model is offered with the tried-and-tested 2.0-litre diesel and the newly-developed 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. Gearbox options include 6-speed AT and a 6-speed MT. But with the next-gen Harrier, we could see the introduction of the Harrier hybrid. While Tata has played down the rumours of a hybrid, it has a powertrain ready for hybrid adoption – the Atkinson-cycle 1.5-litre NA petrol from the Sierra. This same powertrain could be used with the Harrier hybrid. On the other hand, the EV is expected to carry over the same 65kWh and 75kWh pack with the update.

Moreover, with the increased demand for AWD, Tata could now offer it with the new-gen Harrier. Currently, Harrier’s platform is not compatible with AWD. So if Tata decides to move on to the AWD-ready ARGOS platform, AWD is a real possibility.

Rivals

It mainly competes against the likes of the Jeep Compass, the MG Hector, and the Thar Roxx. But due to its pricing, it also competes with the Mahindra XUV7XO, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Alcazar and other such SUVs.

New-Gen Tata Harrier – Expected Pricing & Launch

Currently, the Harrier is priced between Rs 15.33 lakh and Rs 31.47 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We could see a hike of around Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000 with the next-gen model. Furthermore, the Harrier.ev which costs between Rs 22.66 lakh and Rs 31.46 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), would see a smaller hike of around Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000.

We could see the next-gen Harrier by the end of 2027 or in the early months of 2028. It seems a long way away for now, since Tata has other plans like the launch of Sierra.ev, 7-seater version of the Sierra, next-gen Nexon, Tiago and Tigor facelift in its pipeline.
