Skoda Elroq – What Is It?

Skoda’s current SUV lineup includes the Kylaq, Kushaq and the Kodiaq. The gap between the Kodiaq and Kushaq is quite wide, and to narrow it, Skoda is rumoured to be working on the Elroq. The Elroq is already on sale in international markets, and the same unit is expected to be available in India.

The Elroq is a 4.48-m long electric SUV, which means it sits right in between the Creta electric and the Harrier.ev in the Indian SUV market. It looks characteristically Skoda with the sharp cuts and creases and the signature grille. It doesn’t stand out prominently, but has a rather understated look. But other than great looks, what else does the Elroq have to offer?

Powertrain

In the UK, the Elroq is offered with 3 battery pack options –

Performance WLTP – Claimed Range DC Charging Time (upto 80%)
63kWh  201bhp & 310 Nm 426km 24mins
82kWh 282bhp & 545 Nm 562km – 571km 28mins
84kWh (vRS only) 335bhp & 545 Nm 547km 26mins

The vRS variants get a significant power boost over the standard variants, and also get an AWD drivetrain. Unfortunately, only the 63kWh and 82 kWh packs (both single-motor) are expected with the Indian spec. Nonetheless, its power figures are quite substantial and enough to beat the likes of the Creta electric and the Harrier.ev.

Pricing, Launch and Rivals

We expect the Elroq to be priced around Rs 28 lakh and Rs 38 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). While it may slot in perfectly in the Skoda lineup, it is still too early to predict how it fares against the competition. We expect it to be priced higher than the popular Harrier.EV and the XEV9E, despite being smaller.

As for the launch, we can confirm it won’t be coming this year. We could see it in the latter part of next year. You would have to wait some time for it, but Skoda usually doesn’t disappoint with its models, so it is definitely one to look out for.
