Mahindra XEV 9e Hybrid

Yes, this can be quite confusing! Well, the XEV 9e is a ground-up EV that only runs on electricity. However, industry sources suggest that Mahindra is working on a new range extender powertrain for its SUVs. What this essentially means is that the engine will act as a generator and charge up the battery pack. So, the SUV will be propelled by the electric motors and not the engine. A range extender will essentially eliminate the fear of running out of charge, as you can simply fuel up, and the engine will power the battery pack for extended range.
This combines the convenience of Codenamed W613, and W623 are apparently under work, which will likely be the BE6 and XEV 9e range extender models. The brand will likely bring in a 1.5-litre engine to power the battery pack. Now, the concern would be the platform. The XEV 9e is based on the INGLO platform, which only supports electric vehicles. To accommodate the range extender setup, Mahindra will have to make significant changes to the platform. With the help of hybrid tech, Mahindra will also be able to meet the upcoming CAFE norms. We expect the range extender version of the XEV 9e to be launched by 2028. That said, let’s take a look at what else it has to offer!

What Else?

If Mahindra uses the same battery pack options (59kWh and 79kWh) with the range extender engine, it will likely offer the same power and torque output. The smaller battery pack with a single electric motor will likely produce 228bhp and 380Nm of torque. The larger battery pack with a single electric motor will likely put out 282bhp and 380Nm of torque. Mahindra will likely offer the same features as the current model. Features include a triple screen setup, a panoramic glass roof, powered and ventilated front seats, level 2+ ADAS, wireless charging pads and much more. We can expect this SUV to carry a price tag ranging from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
