Suzuki Swift Hydrogen – What’s In It?

At the Vienna Auto Symposium, the Japanese automaker showcased the hydrogen-powered Swift hatch. This hatch is powered by a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder hydrogen engine, which is claimed not to limit performance in any way and is compliant with the advancing fuel norms.
The main highlight of this model was that it is based on the Hydrogen DI tech. It is calibrated for both lean and stoichiometric (Lambda=1) combustion modes. We won’t dive into engineering classes, but you can think of it as the Lambda=1 combustion model offers better performance with around 10kW and 20Nm over the lean mode. The same in lean mode is offered: 90kW and 200Nm. So if you want that little boost, the Lambda=1 mode will help you there, pushing the total to 100kW and 220Nm.

Well, the main point of showcasing this prototype was the hydrogen engine, so the exteriors and interiors aren’t part of the talk. If this gets introduced in India, the additional thing will be just the powertrain.
Also, its launch in India might be a big time away – expect near the end of 2028 or something. Before its launch, the brand and the MORTH would need to plan with the infrastructure supporting the hydrogen fuel tech.
