Volkswagen is planning to enter the most affordable SUV segment with its new sub-4m SUV. The model is expected to launch by mid to late 2027, and will rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Skoda Kylaq, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO and others in the segment.

Volkswagen Sub-4m SUV

Volkswagen Tera is expected to be a mirror image of the Skoda Kylaq, with a different logo and character, to focus more on affordability. The VW Tera SUV is already on sale in the international market, but it is slightly longer than 4m. However, in India, we might see the SUV placed in the sub-4m category to avail tax benefits.

The design language matches that of other Volkswagen models, such as the Tiguan R-Line. The blacked-out elements, like the alloys, grille, and roof, give it a sporty look, which is quite suitable, as VWs are known for their sporty driving dynamics.

The feature list would be identical to the Kylaq and would include amenities such as –

Powertrain

We expect it to be offered with the same 1.0-litre TSI (114bhp & 178Nm) mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AT.
