1. Maruti Brezza Facelift CNG – Upcoming CNG SUVs

One of the most prominent CNG SUVs in India is the Maruti Brezza. This SUV offers a spacious cabin, a reliable ownership experience and unmatched fuel economy. And now, there have been instances of a facelifted version of the Brezza being tested. The highlight of the upcoming Brezza CNG is the underbody CNG system, which could be borrowed from the Victoris. This would allow for added practicality and space in the SUV. The Victoris has a claimed mileage figure of around 27km/kg, and we expect the Brezza to deliver even better mileage, considering it is a slightly smaller car than the Victoris.
Along with the facelift, we can expect new features like a larger touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat, a digital instrument cluster and much more. Rumours also suggest that Maruti may offer a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. It could be launched by the end of this year, with a price range of ₹10.25 lakh to ₹16.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

2. Hyundai Bayon

Hyundai is looking to be more proactive in the Indian market with a plan to bring 26 cars by 2030. One of these 26 cars is a crossover SUV, the Bayon. Expected to rival the Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor, the Bayon will be based on the same platform as the i20. The Bayon is already on sale in international markets, and it will be a great option for Hyundai to capitalise on the smaller SUV segment.
With this new model, Hyundai will likely offer a CNG powertrain with the current i20’s 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, utilising Hyundai’s hy-CNG twin-cylinder technology, allowing for impressive boot space. We expect the Bayon CNG to eke out around 20-22kmpl mileage. Hyundai may offer features like a twin 10.25-inch screen setup, ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, and much more. The pricing could range from ₹9 lakh to ₹13 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and Hyundai will likely launch the Bayon by the end of 2026.

3. Tata Sierra CNG – Upcoming CNG SUVs

Ever since its launch, the Tata Sierra has created massive buzz with its impressive design and its long list of features. And Tata won’t stop their as it will soon be launching the EV version of the Sierra with a few more features and AWD. However, what we are here to discuss is the upcoming CNG variant. During the launch, one of Tata’s officials hinted towards the launch of a Sierra CNG to maximise fuel efficiency. With Tata’s twin-cylinder technology, the Sierra CNG will be able to offer impressive mileage figures without compromising on practicality. Tata will likely offer the CNG tech with the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine.
In terms of features, we expect the CNG variants to get features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a powered driver seat, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and much more. The Sierra is currently priced between ₹13.58 lakh and ₹25.36 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The Sierra is currently priced between ₹13.58 lakh and ₹25.36 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and Tata, being Tata, will likely offer CNG even in the top variants, increasing the price up to ₹26 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 4. Renault Duster CNG

The Renault Duster made an exciting comeback and is back with a bang. It is available now with the most powerful engine in its segment, but what about fuel economy? Well, Renault may have something to cover that, too. Renault recently announced its plan for the Indian market, and one of its strategies includes a new CNG powertrain. Now, the interesting part is that the CNG powertrain will use a twin-cylinder underbody technology to save space and not compromise on the practicality of its vehicles. However, Renault is yet to confirm whether the Duster will get this tech.
Nevertheless, witnessing the demand for CNG and better fuel economy, the Duster will likely get CNG. The Duster’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine will likely accommodate the CNG tech, while the 1.3-litre turbo petrol unit will remain for those who seek best-in-class performance. This will give the Duster the upper hand against rivals like the Grand Vitara, Victoria and Urban Cruiser Hyryder. We expect the feature list to remain untouched. That said, we believe Renault could launch the Duster CNG by the end of this year or early next year.

5. Skoda Kylaq CNG – Upcoming CNG SUVs

The Kylaq has been the most successful product for Skoda, offering the typical Skoda DNA at a much lower price. And now, Skoda may look to up its game further and offer something that the Indian buyers love – a CNG powertrain. A Board member of sales and marketing at Skoda said that the brand may be looking at alternatives, and bringing in a CNG powertrain could be a possibility. The brand showcased a Vision X Concept back in 2018, which marked the introduction of Skoda’s MQB-A0-IN platform, which underpins the current Kushaq, Slavia and Kylaq models.
What’s interesting is that the Vision X Concept had a CNG-hybrid powertrain, which means that the SUVs based on this platform can easily accommodate CNG. We believe that the Kylaq will get the same 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with a neatly integrated CNG tank. Skoda will likely continue to offer the same features as the existing Kylaq. Features include powered and ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, an automatic climate control and the list goes on. We could expect the price of the Kylaq to go up to ₹16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), with the CNG fitment. Skoda could launch the Kyalq CNG by 2027.
