The MG Comet proved something very important to the Indian car market: a tiny, city-friendly car with a quirky design and affordable price tag actually sells. People bought it. People liked it. And now, a new challenger from a brand that has been making waves globally is getting ready to enter the same arena. But this one comes with an SUV stance, higher ground clearance, a boxy attitude and a price tag that could shake things up all over again. Here is everything you need to know.

VinFast VF3 – Most Affordable SUV!

VinFast, which entered the Indian market in September 2025, has outlined two more models for 2026, including the VF3 micro EV, a proper rival to the MG Comet. The VF3 is not just another small car trying to look cute. It is a three-door, four-seat micro SUV from Vietnam that has already found buyers globally, and it is now eyeing India’s growing appetite for affordable urban EVs. It was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, generating genuine buzz thanks to its unique design and competitive positioning.

Design And Dimensions

The VF3 measures 3,190mm in length, 1,679mm in width, and 1,622mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,075mm and a ground clearance of 191mm. So it is genuinely compact, smaller than most hatchbacks, but it sits higher off the ground, giving it an SUV-like presence on the road.
The front gets a black closed-off grille with a chrome bar carrying the VinFast logo, flanked by headlamps and thick all-black bumpers with plastic body cladding all around, giving it a rugged, tough-looking stance. It is available in different vibrant colour options, including Rose Pink, Electric Blue, Urban Mint, and Summer Yellow.

Interior And Features – Most Affordable SUV

The cabin follows the same no-nonsense philosophy as the exterior. Inside, a two-spoke steering wheel and a 10-inch floating touchscreen. The car gets manual air conditioning and front power windows.
Seating is for four people, but rear access is via the folding co-driver’s seat, which admittedly takes some getting used to. Boot space is a modest 36 litres with rear seats up, expanding to 285 litres with the rear seats folded flat, making it a practical city runabout for two people and their everyday essentials. Safety features include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control, which cover the basics well for a city car.

Battery And Range

The VF3 runs on an 18.64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack delivering a claimed range of up to 210 km on a single charge. Fast charging takes the battery from 10 to 70 per cent in just 36 minutes. While 43.5 hp may not sound like much on paper, the VF3’s low weight and compact size make it more than capable of zipping through city traffic, which is exactly what this car is designed to do. It is powered by a rear-wheel-drive electric motor producing 43.5 PS and 110 Nm of torque, with a 0-50 kmph sprint in 5.3 seconds.

Expected Price And Launch – Most Affordable SUV

The VinFast VF3 is expected to launch in late 2026 with an estimated price of Rs 7.50 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Similar to MG, VinFast is also looking to offer a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan, which could further reduce upfront costs and make ownership much more accessible.

The India-spec model could also get a larger battery pack, boosting range and making it an even more compelling proposition at that price point. At Rs 7.5-10 lakh, it would slot right alongside the MG Comet and below the Tata Tiago EV.
