Delhi Hybrid Price Cut!

As per the Delhi government’s new policy draft, EVs will be exempt from road tax and registration fees completely until March, 2030. However, what stands out more prominently is the 50% exemption on road tax and registration for hybrid vehicles until March 2030 in Delhi NCT. This is big news since hybrid vehicles are currently subjected to the same road taxes as conventional ICE models.

This exemption applies to the purchase of new strong hybrid models with a sticker price of less than Rs 30 lakh. This would mean that the VX and VX(O) hybrid trims would get cheaper. Not to mention, other strong hybrid cars like the Invicto, Hyryder, Victoris, Grand Vitara and the upcoming Renault Duster hybrid would be cheaper to own. So, if the draft becomes effective, how much do you save?

Big Savings!

Currently, the Innova Hycross VX and VX(O) trims are subject to registration fees ranging from Rs 2.85 lakh to Rs 3 lakh (on-road, Delhi). This number would be halved under the new policy, and you would save around Rs 1.42 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh in fees. Not to mention, Delhi laws are pretty lenient on petrol cars, and you can own the Innova Hycross petrol for the next 15 years without a single worry. Plus, it’s a Toyota, so you know that it is going to last those 15 years with ease. Expectedly, you would save a similiar amount with the Maruti Invicto as well.

Furthermore, we still haven’t factored in the fuel savings you get from owning a hybrid. You can extract at least 5 kmpl more from the hybrid than its conventional petrol counterpart.

On SUVs like the Victoris, Hyryder and Grand Vitara, you would save around Rs 1 lakh in registration fees as well. So all in all, it could be a great move by the Delhi government to encourage the adoption of hybrid vehicles. Hopefully, other states will follow the Delhi government’s lead.
