Skoda Kylaq VRS Pricing, Features, Powertrain, Launch

The RS badge is coveted by Indian car enthusiasts. The 1st-gen Octavia & Octavia combi, Laura, Octavia RS230, Octavia RS 245, and the latest limited-edition Octavia RS are some of the most desired cars in the used market. Skoda realises this and is also launching the Kodiaq RS this month. But what if it is not stopping there and giving one of its best-selling cars this prestigious badge as well? Here is what you should know about it.

Skoda has previously hinted at the possibility of a Kylaq RS, suggesting it is definitely under consideration. The Kylaq is already one of the most fun-to-drive compact SUVs in the market, and it could only get more exciting with the RS twist.

First and foremost, the Kylaq would receive plenty of aesthetic updates. These changes include more aggressive bumpers, black-out elements, VRS badging and sportier alloys. Skoda could also tweak the suspension and braking setup to handle the sportier drive. But the bigger question is, what will be inside the engine bay?

Skoda Kylaq RS – Powertrain

One particular Kylaq test mule with rear disk brakes was spotted on Indian roads, suggesting that a more powerful Kylaq is currently in the works. And this update won’t simply be a stronger engine tune to its 1.0-litre TSI. Skoda’s brand director has previously hinted that integrating the 1.5-litre TSI into the Kylaq is under consideration. This means that if the Kylaq gets this engine, it could produce a whopping 147 bhp and 250 Nm. It would also get the fabled 7-speed DSG.

Skoda Kylaq RS – What is Skoda Planning?

Skoda has confirmed it will launch the Sportline variant later this year. The updates for this variant are expected to be purely aesthetic. We could only see the powertrain changes with the RS version. Skoda has a packed 2026 with the Slavia facelift, Kodiaq RS, Superb and the second batch of the Octavia RS, so the Kylaq RS would have to wait for some time. We could see it by mid- to late-2027 at the earliest.

If the RS gets the larger 1.5-litre TSI engine, it will no longer be eligible for the sub-4m tax break. This will considerably hike the price. We expect it to be launched at a price of Rs 17-20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). This launch will be purely for car purists, so its sales figures are not expected to be like those of the standard variants.
