Renault Duster 4WD Confirmed?

Reports suggest the Tata Sierra is expected to get an AWD drivetrain in its electrified version. Renault will follow Tata’s footsteps and is expected to unveil a 4WD drivetrain with the Duster. Renault may not have explicitly mentioned a Duster 4WD, but has sneakily hinted at it.
This will get a true off-roader 4X4 option, which is quite uncommon in the segment. Cars like the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder or even the XUV7XO offer AWD, which isn’t as rugged as a traditional 4WD. Even EVs like the Tata Harrier.ev and the upcoming Sierra.ev offer simple dual-motor AWD. The Duster will be the first SUV in its price bracket to offer this feature.

Key Details Revealed!

A few days ago, Renault announced that it will be unveiling the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol Triber soon. But during the same event, it revealed key details about RGMP (the platform on which the Duster and other upcoming Renault cars are based). This platform supports a 4WD and e-4WD drivetrain, suggesting we could soon see it on the Duster. The 4WD is expected to be offered with the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, while the e-4WD will be offered with the upcoming 1.8-litre petrol-hybrid engine.

Renault Duster 4WD – Expected Pricing & Launch

The outgoing Duster tops out at around Rs 22 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and with the 4WD option, you would have to pay a premium of around Rs 75,000 to 85,000. This is a fair amount for those who want to take the Duster through the obstacles of the northern mountains or any other difficult terrains. And the Duster’s pricing is so aggressive that, even after the 4WD was added, it would still be cheaper than its rivals. On the other hand, the hybrid 4WD variant will be slightly more expensive at around Rs 25 lakh.
The Duster hybrid’s launch is set for Diwali this year. We could see the e-4WD being offered on the hybrid from the day of its launch. However, we would have to wait slightly longer for the 4WD to be offered on the conventional petrol models.
