New Renault 7-Seater MPV

Imagine: it is a Sunday morning, and your family of seven is ready for a road trip that requires space, comfort, and a smooth ride. The Maruti Ertiga quietly held its ground in terms of affordability. The Toyota Innova stood tall in prestige. The Kia Carens arrived with a bang. And then, just when the segment looked settled, Renault walked in not with a rushed update, but with an entirely new platform.
That platform is called the RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform), and it is the architectural backbone on which the French automaker is preparing to launch a brand-new 7-seater MPV for the Indian and emerging markets. This is the most significant Renault launch in India since the Duster changed the compact SUV game over a decade ago. To make it even more practical and economical, Renault is also planning to introduce a CNG option. This approach has worked well for Maruti, along with Tata’s innovative underbody CNG and twin-cylinder setup, as seen in models like the Punch, further enhancing usability without compromising on boot space.

The RGMP: Building Blocks of a Better MPV

At the heart of this upcoming Renault MPV lies the RGMP. The platform accommodates vehicle lengths between 3,990 mm and 4,673 mm, a notably wide range that allows Renault to plan three distinct body styles for core markets: an SUV, a hatch, and an MPV. In India, the MPV variant commands the most attention and demand. This 7-seater MPV is expected to offer more space than rivals, thanks to the RGMP’s platform, which has a maximum length of 4,673 mm. For context, the Kia Carens measures 4,540 mm in length, and a Renault MPV stretching close to 4,673 mm would theoretically offer more third-row space.

Powertrain Possibilities – New 7-Seater MPV

In terms of powertrain, the MPV is likely to borrow its engine options from the new Duster, including a 1.8-litre strong hybrid, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (manual), and a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit. Among these, the strong hybrid is expected to be the highlight, aligning with the growing demand for fuel-efficient and eco-friendly options in India. With buyers increasingly leaning towards hybrid technology for its balance of performance and fuel efficiency, Renault’s focus on hybrid powertrains could make this MPV a costly option. To make it more practical, the vehicle may also feature a CNG powertrain option to further enhance its affordability and efficiency appeal.

The Competitive Landscape

Beyond the Kia Carens Clavis, the Renault MPV will also have to reckon with the Maruti Suzuki Invicto and the Toyota Innova Hycross, both of which leverage the Strong Hybrid badge as a key selling point.

Timeline And Pricing – New 7-Seater MPV

While Renault has not publicly confirmed a specific launch date for its RGMP-based MPV in India, it is expected to launch in late 2026 to 2027. If the company prices the MPV aggressively, say, between Rs 15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), it could carve out a strong value proposition that the Kia Carens Clavis, peaking at close to Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for top variants.
