Mitsubishi Pajero Is Coming Back!

Mitsubishi had some outstanding models in India. The Pajero, Montero, Lancer and the Cedia were iconic and arguably ahead of their time. And now, we will see the biggest of the names – the Pajero back.

The president and COO of Mitsubishi Motors, Keisuke Kishiura, has hinted that the legendary off-roader will return in a new guise by the end of this year. The Pajero in global markets has become quite outdated, and Mitsubishi will liven things up soon. It will be launched in global markets first, and the Indian-spec would follow soon.

Big Surprise

Mitsubishi Motors has worked on a deal with TVS Mobility to build a mobility ecosystem in India. In layman’s terms, it means Mitsubishi has invested big bucks to prioritise areas such as service centres, dealerships, and more. While the comeback isn’t concrete yet, this partnership is a good sign for Pajero lovers.

Currently, the Pajero remains a popular name globally thanks to the Pajero Sport. But it’s worth noting that the true “Pajero” hasn’t appeared in a long time. That time is coming soon, as we will see it by the end of this year.

Mitsubishi Pajero – What To Expect?

The Pajero is expected to be based on a body-on-frame chassis to maximise off-roading capability. We expect the Pajero to be based on the global-spec Triton pickup. In Australia, the Triton gets a 2.4-litre twin-turbo diesel mated to a 6-speed AT and 4WD drivetrain. The diesel produces healthy power figures of 201 bhp and 470 Nm of torque.

The powertrain numbers may be the same as those of a Fortuner, but it would be much more expensive. The Pajero is expected to come via the CBU route, which means the cost could head upwards of the Rs 65 lakh mark (on-road, Mumbai). The Pajero was an expensive car to own 12 years ago, as well, when it retailed for around Rs 25 lakh.
