Tata has a diverse lineup of vehicles, including hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs, as well as EV options across most models. But it has only one 7-seater in its range, the Safari. Now, Tata is working on adding another 7-seater to its lineup and here is what we know about it.

Upcoming Tata 7-Seater MPV

During the Sierra launch event, Tata hinted at a 7-seater version. Many also suggest that it will be called the Sumo, but it is still too early to tell. Tata currently lacks an MPV option, and we expect it to fill this gap. The Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova are quite popular, outselling many SUVs, which could prompt Tata to introduce its own MPV.
We expect this 7-seater to be based on the new ARGOS platform. Its design language could match that of other Tata models, with sharp styling and connected headlights and taillights. The ARGOS platform can support a 4.6-m-long car, and if Tata utilises it to the fullest, it would be much longer than the Ertiga, Carens, and Carens Clavis.

Features

Tata could reach into the Sierra part bin for this 7-seater. We expect it to get –
- Triple-screen layout (12.3-inch each)
- Level-2+ ADAS
- Panoramic sunroof
- Ventilated and powered front seats
- 2nd row captain seats with ventilation
- Electric Tailgate
- 360-degree camera
- Wireless charging

Upcoming Tata 7-Seater MPV – Powertrain

Like most EVs, it could be offered in both EV and ICE avatar. ICE options could include a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Expected transmission options include a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. Ertiga has seen good success due to its CNG option and its appeal to fleet buyers; Tata could try the same trick as well. As for the EV, it could be offered with the 55kWh and 65kWh battery packs.

Rivals
Since not many details have been revealed, it is difficult to judge who its rivals would be. But it is very likely to compete against the Kia Carens Clavis and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. It would be quite difficult for Tata to defeat the Innova, nor does the ARGOS platform support Tata in making an Innova rival. On the other hand, the EV model would have limited competition in the market. This competition includes the Carens Clavis EV, the Vinfast VF MPV7, and the XEV9S. It would also compete with the upcoming electric Maruti MPV codenamed YMC.

Upcoming Tata 7-Seater MPV – Expected Pricing & launch

Tata will try to play with the pricing to garner sales. It could price the MPV aggressively between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 21 lakh. The EV will be priced higher, approximately in the range of 16 lakh to Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
It is still in the speculation stage, which means it will be a long time before you see it tested on Indian roads. It could be launched by late 2027 at the earliest. So if you are in the market for an MPV, you may find it very difficult to wait. Nonetheless, this unnamed 7-seater seems quite promising.
