Indians love Skoda and Volkswagen for their delightful engines. While the TSI petrol is pretty impressive, it lacks the grunt of the iconic TDI diesel. The continued availability of its diesel engines has made it rare in the market and highly sought after by enthusiasts. And to those enthusiasts, we have some good news.

Skoda Kodiaq Diesel

Currently, the Kodiaq is one of the most premium offerings for under Rs 60 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It is miles ahead of the Fortuner in terms of features, so why is it unable to overtake it in sales? One key reason is the lack of a diesel powertrain. Fortuner’s 2.8-litre diesel is one of the most desirable in the market. On the other hand, Kodiaq completely misses out on a diesel engine. While the 2.0-litre TSI engine is punchy enough, people still prefer a diesel on such a flagship SUV. And Skoda could finally solve this issue.
Skoda had displayed the Superb diesel at the Bharat Mobility Show, indicating that it is working on a diesel powertrain for India. So, it is also very likely that the Kodiaq will also get the diesel. After all, diesel engines are made for SUVs. The model showcased was the 2.0-litre TDI engine. This engine produces 150 bhp and 360 Nm. You get low-end torque, mileage, and, most importantly, the sweet sound with this engine.
Skoda could improve the Kodiaq’s power figures, since the Fortuner offers splendid performance. Many people currently refrain from looking towards the Kodiaq due to the lack of diesel, so this introduction will definitely attract plenty of those lost customers.

Skoda Kodiaq Diesel – Expected Launch

The Superb is set for launch later this year, and if it debuts with the 2.0-litre TDI engine, we could see the Kodiaq diesel shortly after. The Kodiaq RS is expected to launch within the next 2 months, and the diesel is expected early next year.
Currently, the Kodiaq costs between Rs 44.27 lakh and Rs 56.08 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). With the introduction of a diesel powertrain, we could see a price hike of around Rs 1 lakh. The overall feature list and looks will remain identical, and the changes will be limited to the engine bay.
