New MG Majestor – What to Expect? » MotorOctane

Morris Garages has experienced great success with the Windsor lately. In the first half of 2025, it was the best-selling EV, selling 1,500 more units than the second-placed Tata Punch EV. MG is planning to build on this success and further expand its range with the upcoming Hector facelift and Majestor.

The Majestor was showcased at the Bharat Mobility show. This would be a full-sized SUV and will sit right beside the Gloster in the lineup. In the Chinese market, the Majestor is sold under the name of SAIC Maxus D90 and is the facelifted version of the Gloster. However, MG claims that the Majestor will be sold as a separate product from the Gloster in India. Here is all the information you need to know about the India-bound Majestor.

Key Details

The Majestor is one striking-looking SUV. When launched, it would arguably be the most attractive in its segment. It is more than 5m long, making it 300mm longer than the Fortuner and 50 mm longer than the Gloster. Its gigantic proportions, high stance and 20″ alloys give it a dominating road presence.

You step inside a tri-tone cabin with brushed aluminium accents throughout. The 12.3″ infotainment screen and a digital driver’s display make the cabin look modern. You also get a comprehensive equipment list to complement the plush interior. The list includes Level-2 ADAS, a wireless charging port, a 360-degree parking camera, powered front and rear seats with massage function and a panoramic sunroof. The base trim gets a decent feature list as well, with 20″ alloys, sunroof, 12.3″ driver’s display and 12.3″infotainment screen.

MG was one of the first brands to introduce ADAS in Indian markets when it unveiled the Gloster in 2020. They might try to get ahead of its competition again by adding the Majestor with Level 2 plus ADAS or Level 3 ADAS.

This 7-seater performed well in the recent Australian NCAP tests, scoring 5-stars. For a car this size, you would expect it to perform well in these tests.

Powertrain

The India-spec Majestor will be offered with one engine option – the 2.0L turbo-diesel. The diesel churns out 215 horsepower and a hefty 500 Nm of torque. This engine has a claimed mileage of 11 kmpl, but on Indian roads, the actual figures will be significantly lower. The transmission and drivetrain options are limited as well, with an 8-speed Automatic and 4WD as standard.

MG will be looking to introduce a petrol or a petrol-hybrid powertrain in the near future as well. The Majestor may have introduced a lower-cost trim than the D90 to lower the introductory price. It could be offered with a manual instead of an 8-speed automatic.

Rivals

Times are going to be exciting in the SUV segment soon. The upcoming launches of the Volkswagen Tayron, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Sorento, and the Majestor would compete with the segment leader, the Fortuner. Other competitors include the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and its smaller sibling, the Gloster.

Many manufacturers have tried to dethrone the Fortuner, but have come up short. MG’s last attempt with a Gloster was valiant, but it failed nonetheless. MG will face tougher competition this time around with so many possible launches.

Expected Launch and Price

The launch date is set for mid to late 2026. A Majestor test mule was spotted on Indian highways recently, suggesting an earlier unveiling. But with the launch of the Majestor, the Gloster will take a big hit. Very few people will opt for the Gloster when the more attractive, bigger, and newer Majestor is available for a similar cost.

The introductory price is set to start at 50 lakh, and the top model could cost more than 55 lakh rupees (on-road, Mumbai). With the launch of the Majestor, Morris Garages would have an interesting range, offering 2 full-sized SUVs, 2 mid-sized SUVs, 3 EVs (one of them being the Comet), a luxury MPV and a sports car.
