New Mahindra XUV 5XO – Perfect Tata Sierra Rival? » MotorOctane

In recent years, Mahindra has upped its game in the automotive industry. The brand is offering exactly what the Indians want, be it big & powerful SUVs or stylish, modern & sophisticated EVs. However, the brand currently does not have any conventional products to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta. And that’s exactly where we think the XUV 5XO can fit.

Mahindra XUV 5XO – Need Of The Hour?

Although Mahindra has Thar Roxx – a well-priced product in the Creta segment, the SUV could not be everyone’s choice. Buyers prefer SUVs like the Creta for the comfort & ease of driving they offer in city traffic. On the other hand, the Roxx is massive and could be intimidating to many. It is a comfortable car, but not many would prefer to drive one in traffic – yet it drives impressive sales for the brand. However, a more conventional SUV that sits above the XUV 3XO could help Mahindra increase sales. And no, it probably won’t cost Mahindra much to develop the XUV 5XO!

On the 15th of August 2025, Mahindra revealed its new-gen NU_IQ platform with multiple top hats. The new-gen platform is designed to house ICE as well as electric powertrains. As a flexible platform, Mahindra can launch multiple SUVs on it, with lengths ranging from 3,990mm to 4,320mm. Now, among all the concepts revealed this Independence Day, the Vision X is the closest SUV that gives us a glimpse of the XUV 5XO. The Vision X is a sub-4 metre SUV. However, if Mahindra uses the full potential of the NU_IQ platform – we will likely see the XUV 5XO in making – measuring 4.3 metres in length (typical of SUVs in the Creta segment). Also, the new-gen platform is designed to offer ample cabin space. The brand has already trademarked the name XUV 5XO & with the popularity of the previous XUV500, Mahindra can make the most of the new SUV!

What To Expect?

Even if the XUV 5XO comes into existence, it will have no resemblance to the older XUV500! In fact, it will be a 5-seater model & not a 7-seater like the XUV500. So, just like the Vision X concept, the XUV 5XO will feature aggressive styling. A raised bonnet, 18-inch alloy wheels, sharp lines throughout the body, flush door handles, and a striking rear profile are some of the expected design highlights. For the interior, the SUV can come equipped with connected screens on a curved panel – similar to the Vision X concept. Other elements like rectangular air vents, 3-spoke steering wheel and large centre console could also be part of the interior design highlights.

For engines, Mahindra can use the 1.2-litre TGDi & 1.5-litre diesel mills from the XUV3XO. Both these engines are the most powerful units in the segment. And for the bigger model, Mahindra can tune the engines with higher power ratings. However, known to offer powerful engines, Mahindra may even take a step further & offer its 2.2-litre diesel & 2.0-litre TGDi engines! That said, everything is just at the speculation stage and Mahindra may have different plans to surprise us!
