Maruti WagonR EV Coming?

Maruti is currently exploring the introduction of new hybrid and electric models in the country. The brand is already working on series-hybrid models that will be equipped in the small Maruti cars, likely the Fronx, Swift, and others. Now, in between this, the brand might also plan a compact entry-level EV for the Indian market, and the WagonR fits perfectly in this scenario. That said, the WagonR EV can likely happen in India – but its launch might be sometime between 2027 and 2028.

WagonR EV – Same Shell, Different Story

Maruti is unlikely to change the model’s looks, and by looks, we mean the tall, boxy KEI car styling. However, other styling elements like the headlamp, taillamp, closed grille, and aero-styled wheels are expected to be equipped to make a difference.

No More Outdated Interiors

Talking about the interiors, the WagonR EV is expected to offer several tech features, including a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, a single-pane sunroof, a USB Type-C charging port, and more. For safety, apart from the six airbags, we also expect it to get hill hold assist and an electronic parking brake. It might not get the ADAS suite to keep the price in check.

Battery Pack

The Maruti WagonR EV will be powered by a small battery pack. While the battery pack details are not yet revealed, we expect it to be somewhere between 15-25 kWh in size, delivering an estimated range of around 230-250km.

Pricing

Now, as the model is expected to launch by 2027 or 2028, we expect it to be priced around Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
