Tata Scarlet – What To Expect?

Tata Scarlet – What To Expect?Tata Scarlet – What To Expect?

The Tata Scarlet is a new nameplate and is likely be offered as a lifestyle SUV option. This means that the Scarlet will take on the likes of the Mahindra Thar and the Maruti Jimny. Now, ever since the launch of the OG Sierra, the Scarlet will be Tata’s only lifestyle SUV, which is more about the thrill of exploring the roads less travelled. There were a few spy shots of an SUV that sported a boxy, rugged stance and looked quite similar to the Sierra. However, the test mule looked smaller than the regular Sierra, leading us to believe that a mini-Sierra was in the works. Now, it is likely that this mini Sierra is none other than the upcoming Tata Scarlet. But what will this new Tata SUV be like?

New Powertrain And 4X4?

As rumours suggest that the Scarlet will be a lifestyle SUV, we believe Tata will introduce this SUV in ICE form as well as EV.  Industry sources suggest that the Scarlet will sit in the sub-4-meter SUV segment and compete with the likes of the Thar 3-Door and the Maruti Jimny. We believe that the Scarlet will be based on the new ARGOS platform, which is capable of accommodating both EV and ICE powertrains. With the ICE, the Scarlet will likely be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine or the 1.5-litre diesel engine.

On the other hand, the EV version will likely get Tata’s QWD with 2 electric motors on each axle for better off-road grip – similar to the Harrier.ev. Tata could offer 2 battery pack options with the Scarlet: a 40kWh battery pack and a 55kWh battery. The larger battery pack could get 2 electric motors, delivering a combined output of 200 bhp, along with QWD. While it isn’t the same as 4X4, QWD works quite well in off-road conditions as witnessed on the Harrier.ev. We expect the Scarlet to be quite an interesting product. That said, what else does it have to offer?

What Else?

As it is going to be a lifestyle SUV, the Scarlet will likely sport a boxy, rugged stance with tall stature. The SUV will likely feature large all-terrain wheels and body cladding for better durability off-road. The rugged design language will likely make it inside, too, adding to the character of the SUV. We expect the Scarlet to get features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera and much more. Tata could offer off-road-specific features like terrain modes, adjustable traction, driving modes, crawl mode, hill descent control and much more.
