Renault launched the Duster in March 2026, reviving one of the brand’s most successful products in India. With the new Duster, Renault introduced a plethora of new features, hybrid tech and powerful engine options. However, we also expect the French carmaker to introduce a 4×4 version, and a spotted test mule might just be a confirmation of the same. So, let’s take a look!

Renault Duster 4X4 Coming Soon?

When the Duster initially made its debut in India, it was the first-ever compact segment SUV in India. And also one of the few to have AWD. However, in a recent presentation event, Renault confirmed that the platform (RGMP) that underpins the new Duster is capable of 4X4. Now, the reason we say the test mule could be the 4X4 is that the production of the hybrid Duster has been completed, as confirmed by the brand, which only leaves CNG and 4X4 on the table.
We believe that Renault will likely bring in the 4X4 first, considering no other car in the segment offers the same. This will give the Duster an upper hand in its segment and cater to a wider audience, including off-road enthusiasts. The RGMP platform also supports e-4WD, meaning that the hybrid version could get 4X4. While we will get to see that in the flesh, considering the hybrid is expected to be launched by this festive season, we could see a petrol 4X4 by early next year. So, what exactly can we expect from the Duster 4X4?

What To Expect?

While we are speculating that the Duster could get 4X4, the engine details are still under wraps. As we know that the RGMP platform, on which the Duster is based, is compatible with e-4WD, it is safe to say that the 1.8-litre petrol hybrid powerplant could be offered with the e-4WD tech. However, we expect the non-hybrid 4X4 to be powered by the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine (160bhp & 280Nm). However, as these are just speculations, it is best to wait for Renault to confirm a few more details about the upcoming 4WD powertrain.
In terms of features, we expect to see the same 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, Level 2 ADAS and much more. Additionally, we expect 4X4 specific features like hill descent control, multiple terrain modes and a few more. The existing Duster carries a price tag ranging from Rs 12.42 lakh to Rs 22.12 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, with 4X4, we can expect the prices to go up to Rs 23.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
