New Nissan Tekton – What to Expect? » MotorOctane

Despite its long presence in the country, Nissan has struggled to gain a foothold in the Indian car market. Globally, Nissan is one of the most successful manufacturers, but it has not replicated that success in India.

With the increased demand for the Duster, Nissan decided to leverage its alliance with Renault and adopt the Terrano’s underpinnings. This attempt turned out to be unprosperous. Nissan tried again with the Nissan Kicks, and it seemed like the perfect recipe for success, yet it flopped. It wasn’t until the Nissan Magnite that Nissan finally enjoyed some success with its SUVs.

The current Nissan range looks rather dismal, with only 2 cars on offer – the X-Trail and the Magnite. People have already forgotten about the X-trail, and it is the Magnite that is keeping Nissan’s boat afloat. The Japanese manufacturer would like to change this, since the Indian market can be among the most fruitful in the world. Nissan has unveiled plans to launch a few cars in the coming year, with the Tekton among them. Here is all you need to know about the upcoming Nissan Tekton.

Exterior

While Nissan may not have showcased the Tekton yet, it has given us a glimpse of what it could look like. You can see the overall design language of the Tekton from these pics. The Tekton has an upright stance with sharp cuts and creases across the body. From the picture, the Tekton looks like a handsome SUV. We are yet to see how different the production model will look from the concept shown in the images, but the signs look promising.

A few notable design elements include a front lightbar running across the front end and a rear lightbar connecting the taillights. The Nissan designers have gone with an aggressive look, and if the production model closely resembles the concept images, it would make it one of the best-looking cars in the mid-sized SUV segment.

Interior

The Tekton is supposed to be another product of the Renault-Nissan alliance in India. And like with the Terrano, the Tekton shares its platform with the Duster. It is very likely to borrow the cabin and feature list from the upcoming Duster. We got a look at what the Duster’s interiors would look like thanks to its UK-spec model.

The interiors would be very straightforward. Like with most modern cars, you would get a fully digital driver’s display (7″) along with a massive (12.5″) infotainment screen. The Duster sold globally is not the epitome of luxury, but it offers all the amenities you expect at that price point. The cabin struggles with a lot of hard plastics, which may drive away many potential customers. Nissan would like to improve Dacia/Renault’s build quality and give it its own personal touch to make it plush.

Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree parking camera, and front ventilation seats are just some of the features expected from the Tekton. Moreover, the abovementioned features are available on the UK-spec Duster, suggesting that the Tekton could get them as well. Unfortunately, the UK-spec Duster misses out on amenities like a panoramic sunroof and powered front seats. Nissan will need to provide the Tekton with a thorough list of features to stay competitive in the midsize SUV segment.

Powertrain

The powertrain options are expected to be identical to those of the upcoming Duster. A 1.2L mild-hybrid petrol and a 1.6L strong-hybrid Petrol are the engines on offer. You do not get the hybrid options on the base trim; the 1.2L petrol engine is standard. The Tekton will be offered with 2 transmission options: manual and automatic. While we know it will be available with a 6-speed manual, we do not yet know about the automatic options. Furthermore, the Tekton could also be offered with an AWD drivetrain.

Rivals

The Tekton will be facing fierce competition in the mid-sized SUV segment. This competition would include the sought-after Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta, along with the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyrdyer, Tata Sierra, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700 and the Honda Elevate. Another addition to this list would be its sibling, the forthcoming Renault Duster.

It is also important to note that most of these cars are scheduled to receive a facelift in 2026 or 2027. So Nissan would need the seal of a solid NCAP rating and an expansive feature list to gain a market share of the segment.

Expected Launch And Price

Nissan has already teased the Tekton, which indicates an imminent arrival in India. We expect the car to go on sale by early 2026, shortly after the Renault Duster. The strong hybrid variant is expected to go live on the sales floor later that year.

The price is expected to start at 13 lakh rupees, and the top variants could cross 20 lakh rupees (on-road, Mumbai). Nissan could benefit from a more aggressive final price for its hybrid variants, thanks to the tax break on hybrid cars.
