The Tata Tiago was launched as a successor to the Tata Bolt and the Indica. All these hatchbacks share similar underpinnings. Tiago’s predecessor, the Bolt, struggled to garner sales, and Tata expected a better response with the Tiago. It has fared well since its launch in 2016 and is still in its first generation. Tata hasn’t made many significant upgrades to the platform, but has made slight tweaks to the design and feature list to keep it fresh. And yet, the Tiago (ICE and EV variants combined) sells in substantial numbers, with almost 9,000 units sold in October 2024, making it the 3rd-best-selling Tata vehicle.
Tata will be looking to release a facelift, or possibly the next-generation Tiago, soon. Here are all the details that you should know about the upcoming Tiago facelift.
Key Details

The Tiago is due for an aesthetic makeover. The outgoing model seems out of place in the modern Tata lineup. A sharper, more modern design, with revamped front and tail ends, is expected. The overall posture would remain similar to the outgoing model, and it could adopt a design language similar to that of the newer Tata cars.
The platform is expected to remain unchanged, with minor tweaks to improve safety. The outgoing Tiago comes with dual airbags as standard, while Maruti Suzuki has made six airbags standard across all its cars. Tata will need to make similar changes to keep up with their competition.
Like the exteriors, the interiors would resemble those of other Tata cars. For its price range, Tata offers a decent set of features on its top models, but the lower variants suffer severe cost-cutting. For instance, you get magazine pockets, front fog lamps and USB-C charging ports only with its top model (XZ+).

Powertrain

The outgoing Tiago offers 3 powertrain options, none of which involve a diesel. These options are a petrol, CNG and an all-electric powertrain. All ICE variants use a 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine that prioritises fuel efficiency above all else. The CNG gets an 11-horsepower and 17 Nm disadvantage over the petrol powertrain. But people who use CNG would have power very low on their lists. And Tata has also worked on the practical issues associated with CNG vehicles. The twin-cylinder setup allows for more boot space and a more practical interior. Moreover, these powertrains would be tuned for better fuel efficiency in the revised model.
You don’t have an array of gearboxes to choose from, either. The outgoing model offers a 5-speed AMT and a 5-speed manual. Overall, the engine options and gearbox options will remain identical with the upcoming facelift.
The Tiago EV is one of the cheapest EVs on the market. Tata has recorded decent sales with the Tiago EV and would like to improve on this venture. To do so, Tata could extend the battery range and shorten charging times with the updated Tiago.
Rivals
Its rivals are the Maruti Swift and Maruti WagonR, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and the Renault Kwid, which have all received recent design revisions, and the Kwid looks somewhat outdated in that regard. Furthermore, the Tiago lags in features and requires significant alterations.
Despite having just 2 airbags as standard, the Tiago performed well in Global NCAP tests, which received 4 stars. If Tata equips the upcoming version with more airbags as standard, these ratings could further improve. Its rivals, like the WagonR and the Swift, fared poorly in these tests, but Maruti has made 6 airbags standard to make up for it. The current platform the Tiago uses has been reliable, and Tata would like to improve it.

Expected Price and Launch

Tata will continue to offer the attractive pricing of the Tiago with the facelifted version. The current model starts at 5.35 lakh rupees (on-road, Mumbai), and the top model could touch 10 lakh rupees. Tata will refrain from adding a significant premium for the updated version, and the price hike won’t exceed 25,000 rupees.
Tata has yet to announce the official launch date for the Tiago facelift, but speculation suggests we could see this update by mid to late 2026.
