Tata Sierra Launch – The First Instance

After being discontinued back in 2003, Tata unveiled a new concept design of Sierra in 2020. Being in the first stage, the front of the model was inspired from the Tata Punch – having an overall boxy SUV look.

What appealed the most is the wrap-around styled rear glass, that used to differentiate the Sierra from other models. With the Sierra, Tata tried to enforce the emotional appeal again retaining the silhouette. In its initial stages, the Sierra concept was equipped with sliding rear doors, big glass roof, lounge type seating offering a limo-like legroom.

The interiors were also kept very minimal – an infotainment screen wasn’t even on the pack, just a flat-type steering wheel, and a popped out instrument cluster, and AC vents. While it was a concept, we knew many things will particularly not make its way on the final production model.

Near To Production Model
After a soft-launch, Tata Motors again showcased the concept – or say a near-production model in 2023.

The exteriors seemed to be more readied. The absence of a grille, hinted it to be an EV. The front didn’t look like the Punch anymore. One could see how the model was completely revamped, but it still carried the wrap-around windows at the rear. However, the new Sierra doesn’t really have a wrap-over fixed window, it’s just a graphic trick – that seems to be working well. And this model appears to be a more practical five-door SUV.

On the inside, the model looked more prepared. It included – a 12.3-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 4-spoke steering wheel, gear knob, AC controls just beneath the vents and more. Something missing was the door grab handle, but it does get the door armrest which gets a panel inside for pushing and pulling the door. But who knew then, that this same feature list will be carried over to the Tata Safari.
The glass roof was also in the pack till this time. Seats on the inside were rotating-types. The seats were changed, but the space was still kept the same by pushing the rear seats a bit back. Another major attraction here was the sound-bar equipped on the dashboard, just beneath the vents. But, will all these make way on the final model?

Finally The SUV Is Here!

After a long wait, Tata showcased the SUV twice this year. Obviously as it has to make it run on the streets. The final production model witnesses many major changes.
The Sierra’s major attraction, the wrapped windows made its way to the final model – they are the real emotional appeal that Tata needs to carry. The final production model showcased was the ICE version of the model – the difference was a black grille, that was missing out on the EV version. Apart from that, the boxy design language was carried over.

The interior also saw some major upgrades. One of them was the triple screen display (for instrumentation and infotainment), alongside some others like a powered driver seat with memory function, ventilated front seats, huge panoramic sunroof, 12-speaker JBL Black Sound System, extendable thigh support for front seats and more.
Things that were carried on from the concepts was the soundbar mounted on the dashboard, same door armrest panel working as door grab handle, spacious interiors for better comfort, flat-bottom steering wheel amongst others.
