Honda showrooms not receiving the new units of Activa has been in the headlines. However,  the model that we are talking about here is not the regular petrol version, but the electric iteration of Activa.

Honda launched the Activa to take on the Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1 and others in February 2025. Now, within just 6 months of launch – industry reports suggest that the model is now out of production. The electric version of Activa was expected to receive the same popularity as its petrol model, but it didn’t. And then Honda was forced to stop the production to save the cost.

Reason

So, why did the Honda Activa e not deliver the expected result? There’s not a single reason – but it’s a chain of reasons, and the first starts with sales.

Starting from its launch, Honda produced 11,168 total units of the Activa and the QC1 electric scooters. Till July, only 5,201 units sales (of both the models) were registered. Of these, the Activa’s electric iteration accumulated a total sales of just 698 units! Not even 1000 units were sold in 6 months. As a result, Honda thought to stop the production of it.

Then why was it not sold? Was it that bad? For all, it had a better potential in the Indian market. Despite this, the brand didn’t have any solid plans, nor any strong infrastructure network. Being launched in February, at the start it was just available on sale in only a single city (Bangalore), eventually after some months it started reaching Mumbai and Delhi. Apart from the three mentioned here, no other cities were even witnessing a single Activa electric model in their nearby Honda showrooms.

For this, Honda stated that they wanted to be clear on the charging infrastructure before selling the Activa e. Major reason behind this? The Activa.e owners would need to rely on the swappable battery stations. There was no other option to charge the battery once it got drained.

However, Honda was not able to keep up with the building the infrastructure needed – it resulted in the buyers skipping the Activa e.

What Else?

While the brand is yet to share the details regarding the stoppage, it can be expected that Honda might be reassessing the strategy for its electric vehicle strategy for India. That said, it’s still unclear if the brand will again start the production of this scooter or make changes to its product line-up, at the moment.
