Mahindra Thar Facelift

A few weeks ago, a bunch of upcoming Mahindra SUVs were spotted testing together. And among these SUVs was the Thar. While the Scorpio N facelift, the Scorpio pick-up and the Vision S got all the attention, many people overlooked the Thar facelift.

With the modern Thar, many people have had one niggle, the grille. The complaint remains that the grille doesn’t suit the overall look of the Thar, which is why many people opt for an aftermarket solution. But now, Mahindra has fixed the issue as the test mules sport the grille from the Thar Roxx. You can also spot a new LED headlamp unit on the test mules.

This facelift won’t be a generation change, so don’t expect many major updates. Mahindra won’t stir up the recipe much and would just add a sprinkle of spice with the updated design.

Powertrain

The changes inside the engine bay would be minimal, as it is expected to get the same 1.5-litre diesel (117 bhp & 300 Nm), 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (150 bhp & 320 Nm), and a 2.2-litre diesel (130 bhp & 300 Nm). Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AT. Moreover, the outgoing model also gets the option of a 4WD drivetrain, as a true off-roader should.

But what’s interesting is that Mahindra have unveiled the Vision T concept, which is supposed to be the electric version of the Thar, suggesting that its electric counterpart could be coming soon. The Vision T concept is a 5-door concept, but it is more likely that the 3-door Thar would be electrified first. Mahindra have been enthusiastic about its electric adventures, and the Thar electric doesn’t seem very out of place. However, the Thar electric is a distant dream for now, and the facelift is unlikely to get the EV version just yet.

Features

The Thar might be a compact SUV, but it is by no means affordable. And to justify such a price, Mahindra are expected to load it up with features like –

  • ADAS suite
  • 6 airbags
  • 360-degree camera
  • Electric sunroof
  • Front ventilated seats
  • Powered Driver seats
  • Automatic Climate Control
  • 10.25-inch digital driver’s display
  • 10.25-inch infotainment screen
  • Wireless Charging

Mahindra Thar Facelift – Expected Pricing & Launch

The outgoing model costs around Rs. 11.91 lakh and Rs 20.92 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). If the facelift gets an ADAS suite, we could see a price hike of up to Rs 65,000. But this price hike won’t deter Thar lovers from buying it. And with these updated looks, you can expect its popularity to only rise in the coming time.

Mahindra is yet to reveal any details about the facelift, but we could see it being launched by late 2026. Mahindra has other launches scheduled for this year, such as the Scorpio N facelift and the Thar facelift, which could be the next facelifts from the Indian automaker.
