Toyota And Lexus SUV Recalled!

The Land Cruiser and its more premium sibling, the Lexus LX, are the epitome of SUVs. Cars don’t get more reliable than these SUVs. However, not all units of these SUVs can claim the same. Toyota and Lexus are now recalling more than 1,000 (969 LC300 & 117 Lexus LX) models over this fault, which could severely damage the cars.
Toyota has recalled the LC300 and Lexus LX models that were manufactured between 4th September 2024 and 29th September 2025. The reason for the recall is a software reprogramming of the transmission control software. This software is responsible for transmission performance, but it has a glitch that needs to be fixed. And how crucial is the recall?

What’s the Issue?

Both these SUVs share one platform, which also means that they use the same powertrain – a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine is as reliable as ever, but the issue lies with the transmission. In both these SUVs, you get an electronically controlled transmission (ECT), which actuates gear shifts via a solenoid. The ECT experiences a glitch in which communication with the ECU (Engine Control Unit) fails.
This means that if the solenoid fails, the ECU would have no alert of the failure, leading to over-revving at certain gears. An aftermath of this issue is the loss of power, particularly at higher speeds. And the troubles don’t stop there. This issue can severely damage the transmission and cause a fluid leak into the exhaust system. The result of hot transmission fluid leaking into the exhaust is, expectedly, fire. Fortunately, no cases of this failure have been reported to date.

Toyota & Lexus Recalled – What Should Be Done?

The glitch is software-related, which means all it needs is a slight reprogramming of the ECT and ECU. Toyota and Lexus dealerships would contact you if you own an LC300 or an LX. However, if you don’t want to wait for the dealer to reach you, you can contact your nearest Toyota or Lexus authorised dealer. This is a voluntary recall, and you won’t be charged for resolving the problem.
