Will VW Fix This Issue By Tomorrow? » MotorOctane

The Taigun has been a successful VW product, but like most cars, it suffered from a few issues in its early days. May that be the lack of features, the small-car design, or the complaints regarding the AC compressor. Will VW fix these issues prior to its official unveiling tomorrow? Let us find out.

Volkswagen Taigun To Be Revealed Tomorrow!

The Taigun is set for its official unveiling tomorrow. The price reveal is some time away, but we expect the pre-bookings to commence tomorrow. But what’s new with the facelift?

The most dramatic change is up front. Now it is sharper, with a more modern design language borrowed straight from Volkswagen’s global lineup. The connected LED headlamps sweep in one clean line across the front, with an illuminated VW logo at the centre, a slimmer grille, and a bumper that looks far more premium than the current model’s. The GT trim takes it a notch further, with blacked-out elements throughout for a sporty, no-nonsense look. But new alloy wheel designs and cleaner body lines give it a big car feel. At the rear, it gets revised tail-lamps and a reworked bumper to round things off.

VW Taigun Facelift – What Has Changed?

The interior is where the real conversation begins. The issue with the outgoing model is the weak air conditioning and short feature list. Skoda has fixed the issue with the Kushaq facelift by installing an improved air compressor, and the Taigun will use the same solution. We experienced a significant improvement in cooling when we reviewed the Kushaq facelift.

The current Taigun seems outdated in terms of its feature list. And VW could fix this issue by equipping the Taigun with rear massage seats, a larger driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and more.

However, it is still unlikely that VW will offer it with a 360-degree camera and an ADAS suite. There may not be an alternative for the ADAS suite, but luckily, you can opt for the 360-degree camera as an accessory.

Under the hood

Mechanically, the Taigun facelift is not expected to deviate from its sibling’s (Skoda Kushaq). The two engine options, a 115hp 1.0-litre TSI and a 150hp 1.5-litre TSI, are widely expected to carry over unchanged in terms of output. The significant news is on the gearbox front. The 1.0L TSI’s 6-speed torque-converter automatic is likely to be replaced by an 8-speed unit that debuted on the Kushaq, promising smoother city driving and better highway cruising composure. And with this new gearbox, the mileage figures are expected to see a healthy push as well. With the update, you can get the right combination of drivability and fuel economy.

The 1.5L TSI is expected to continue with its existing 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The 6-speed manual will likely remain available only on the entry-level 1.0L variants.

VW Taigun Facelift – Why Tomorrow Matters!

India’s midsize SUV segment is an absolute battleground right now. New entries have been pouring in, whether it is the Renault Duster backed by the Tata Sierra, or veterans like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder, all fighting hard for the same buyer. Volkswagen would have to price it aggressively to stand a chance in this market. We expect it to be priced between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
