It is well known that the Hyundai Creta is the SUV to beat among manufacturers. There have been many new additions in the segment with the launches of the Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos facelift and the Skoda Kushaq facelift. In the coming months, there will be a few more additions with the Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton. Volkswagen are also now planning to give one of its SUVs a much-needed update. Here are all the details you should know about this upcoming facelift.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift

We are talking about the Volkswagen Taigun. When launched in 2021, it created quite a buzz in the market and was popular for its driveability and looks. But ever since then, Volkswagen has barely updated the Taigun, and it has now fallen behind its competition. It may still look fresh as ever, but a makeover is still needed.
The Taigun is expected to adopt Volkswagen’s new design language. This design language features sleek headlights and taillights, a thin upper grille, and a larger lower grille. It is very likely that it also gets connected taillights like the Skoda Kushaq. Other aesthetic changes include newer alloy wheel designs and colour options. The vehicle’s overall stance is expected to remain unchanged, as it will use the same platform as the current Taigun.
Taigun Facelift – Features

The equipment list will be identical to the revised Kushaq. The list would include: 10-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, a larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, powered and ventilated front seats, front sensors, etc. Like the Kushaq, the Taigun is expected to get the premium rear seat massaging feature. That would make the Kushaq and Taigun the only cars in this segment (and in higher segments) to get this feature. A major miss with the outgoing Taigun is the lack of ADAS, 360-degree camera and rear sunblinds. Volkswagen could go one step further than Skoda and offer the 360-degree camera as standard (on higher variants), instead of as an accessory. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that the Taigun facelift gets an ADAS suite.

Taigun Facelift – Powertrain

The same 2 engines will be on offer with the facelift- a 1.0-litre TSI (114bhp & 178Nm) and a 1.5-litre TSI (148bhp & 250Nm). The major change will come in the transmission department, where the 6-speed torque converter from the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine will be replaced by an 8-speed AT gearbox. While the 6-speed manual (with 1.0-litre TSI) and 7-speed DSG (with 1.5-litre TSI) gearbox options are expected to be unchanged.
Also worth noting is that the 1.5-litre TSI will no longer be offered with a manual gearbox. Volkswagen made this move recently with the outgoing model. It is unlikely that they change this decision with the facelift.

Taigun Facelift – Rivals
The Volkswagen Taigun sits in, arguably, the most competitive segment at the moment. It would compete with the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate and the revised Skoda Kushaq. Not to mention, there will be a few more entries in the market with the Renault Duster and the Nissan Tekton.

Taigun Facelift – Expected Pricing And Launch

While there have been no concrete reports about the Taigun facelift, we expect it to be unveiled in the second half of 2026. Moreover, Volkswagen is currently focused on the launch of the Tayron in India, and a Taigun facelift launch seems pretty far away for now.
The current model starts at Rs 13.51 Lakh, and the GT Plus variant goes up to Rs 22.70 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The pricing will remain similar to the outgoing Taigun, with a minor price hike of around Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000 expected.
