Why Maruti Launched The Victoris?

Maruti is aiming to sell the Victoris through its 3000+ Arena dealerships to boost sales. The reason could be that the Grand Vitara did not sell as much through Maruti’s 500+ Nexa dealerships. So, even if Maruti sells 2-3 Victoris models per dealership, the monthly sales figures would be pretty impressive. Plus, the Victoris is a more premium offering when compared to the Grand Vitara in terms of features, safety and tech. So, this being the case, will Toyota adopt the new Victoris?

Unlike the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota has enjoyed the sales coming from its best-selling SUV, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. So, if the Toyota SUV has had more success, why won’t the brand launch its own version of the Victoris? Well, the simple reason might be that the brand does not need to do it. If the Urban Cruiser Hyryder is doing well in sales, a Victoris alternative will only disrupt the sales of the Hyryder.

Plus, unlike Maruti, Toyota only has a single dealership chain, so the sales won’t really double or triple themselves with the new launch. In fact, the sales might begin to split between the well-established Hyryder and the new Victoris derivative. But what lies in the future of both the sister cars?

Well, as of now, Maruti will continue to sell the Grand Vitara. However, we speculate that if the sales of the Grand Vitara see a further dip, Maruti may discontinue the SUV. Also noteworthy is that the Grand Vitara is manufactured in the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) facility in Bidadi, Karnataka, India. As the Victoris is being manufactured in Maruti’s own facility, it will be of slight economic benefit to continue with the Victoris over the Grand Vitara.

On the other hand, we think Toyota could launch a facelift version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder with features from Victoris. If not that, Toyota could simply replace the existing Hyryder with its own version of the Victoris. But, Toyota will very likely stick to the Hyryder nameplate.
