Royal Enfield is one of the most loved brands in India, renowned for bikes like the Classic 350 and Himalayan. However, one of RE’s bikes, which offers great value for money and immense potential, is probably the most overlooked. So, which bike is this? Let’s discuss –

Most Ignored Royal Enfield!

The bike we are talking about is derived from your favourite Royal Enfield, the Himalayan. This derivative gets all the best components of the Himalayan but is more practical, easier to use and actually fun to ride. And no, this is not the Guerilla 450, but the Scram 440, derived from the older Himalayan 411.
The Scram 440 is one of the most underrated and ignored Royal Enfields on sale. In our opinion, the Scram 440 is one of the best all-round bikes in its segment. City riding, highway touring, off-road trails – you name it, the Scram can do it all. All the faults and niggles of the Scram and Himalayan 411 were fixed and improved to make the Scram 440. And now, it feels like a complete motorcycle. So, why is this bike still the most ignored?

Royal Enfield Scram 440 – Cons

Priced between Rs 2.71 Lakh to Rs 2.80 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the Scram 440 is in a very competitive segment. A wide variety of bikes, ranging from cruisers, roadsters, ADVs, and sports bikes, are available in the price range of Rs 2.50 Lakh to Rs 3 Lakh. And among these options, the RE Scram 440 gets ignored.
Even after the changes to the powertrain, the engine still lacks power, so much so that even bikes with a smaller engine produce better power. Plus, the bike weighs in at 196 kg, making it a little sluggish. Potential buyers may steer away from the Scram 440 after discovering that it is based on the older Himalayan 411 chassis. Another issue could be the lack of features, considering other bikes in the price range offer a plethora of features. These reasons could have affected the image and desirability of the Scram.

What Makes It Good?

The Scram 440 is essentially a road-biased soft-roader that can take on rough terrains with ease and behaves well even on good roads and highways. But the Scram 440 is more of a “chill out” motorcycle, best for laid-back bike riding. Hop onto the bike and simply cruise, and you might just understand the real purpose of the bike. If you ring the throttle and expect the bike to frantically leap forth, it’s not happening. But if you are gentle with the throttle, riding like a sane person, you will thoroughly enjoy the experience. If you want to take the bike for rough technical trails, the bike might not respond in the best manner. But bear in mind that it is a “Scrambler” and not an off-road focused bike like the Himalayan 450. But it will be the all-rounder you need. Essentially, it is the “Jack of all trades.”
