The car size keeps increasing as we go through the alphabet. In a huge market like India, we have a lot of options to choose from, from segment A to the recently introduced segment D+. Here is your guide to choosing the right size of car –

A-segment Cars –

A-segment car, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

“A” segment cars are the smallest and most affordable passenger cars. For a kid starting their schooling journey, “A” is probably the first thing they learn. The same logic can be applied while selecting a car. A-segment cars are the best choice for someone looking for their first car, as they are known to be affordable and compact.

These segment cars are up to 3.699 mm long and feature smaller engines ranging from 800 cc to 1.0-litre. The best picks in this segment are the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Wagon R, Alto K10, S-presso and Renault Kwid. 

B-segment Cars –

B-segment car, Tata Punch Facelift

B-segment cars are not much bigger than the A-segment but are slightly better equipped. In this segment, you can expect better performance and features. Cars in this segment are well-suited for buyers looking for a city car with comfort, and can handle occasional highway runs as well.

The length of B-segment cars is between 3,700mm and 3,849mm, and is further divided into two sub-domains: B1 and B2

The B1 segment mostly includes the small hatchbacks and micro SUVs. The popular cars in this segment are the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Tata Punch. 

Whereas the B2 segment is vast and includes various categories of cars under the sub-4-meter mark. From Maruti Dzire to Mahindra Thar (3-door) all come under the B2-segment. 

C-Segment Cars –

C-segment Cars, Hyundai Creta

This is currently the most trending segment, with several existing launches and updates over the past few months. From the B-segment to the C-segment, the jump is pretty much noticeable; cars in the C-segment get more space, better engines, and come with a long list of features. C-segment cars can be a great choice for bigger families, long-distance travellers and buyers looking for premium features.  

These cars exceed the 4-meter mark; the tax you pay increases too.  These segment cars are between 4,000 mm and 4,599 mm. C-segment is also divided into two sub-divison including C1 and C2. In the segment, there are no hatchbacks. 

The C1 segment includes mid-size SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, the recently launched Tata Sierra, and the updated Kia Seltos. 

In the C2 segment, you start seeing 7-seater MPVs like the Kia Carens, Hyundai Alcazar, and Maruti Suzuki XL6. Not just MPVs, this segment also includes some sedans like the Honda City, Skoda Slavia, and Volkswagen Virtus. 

D-segment Cars –

Toyota Fortuner D-segment Car

In the D-segment, it feels really spacious and comfortable. These segment cars are not just about practicality; they also define the status of their owners. If you spend most of your time in the rear seat of a car, these segment cars will suit you best. D-segment cars are well past the 4-meter mark, resulting in inflated prices due to high taxation. 

These car length from 4,600mm to 4,799mm in length. In the D-segment, there are two subdivisions: D1 and D2. 

The D1 segments include the recently updated SUVs like Mahindra 7XO, Tata Safari, sedans like Skoda Octavia and Audi A4 and MVPs like Toyota Hycross and Crysta. Above this sits the D2 segment, which includes the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Volkswagen Tayron. 

MG Majestor

Earlier, the D-segment was limited to the D2 segment, but with the recent launch, the MG has introduced a new segment into the Indian Market. MG Majestor is the D+ segment car. which exceeds the 5-meter mark. Majestor has not yet been tested, but we will test it soon. Getting to know this segment even better.
