The OG Sierra!

Well, the trick is to get the OG Sierra. After all, Tata has drawn inspiration from the old-school Sierra. So if you do wish to get a Sierra before anyone else in India, we have found you a used Sierra available for just Rs 2.20 Lakh. That’s right! We came across a 1997 Tata Sierra on Auto Curator. From the images, the Sierra looks to be in good condition, and the owner seems to have installed aftermarket wheels, a body kit and a few more design elements.

Tata Sierra Used – Specifications

The Tata Sierra was offered with 2 engine options: a 1.9-litre NA diesel engine (67bhp) and a 1.9-litre turbo diesel (87bhp & 186Nm). The latter was also exported to international markets with an AWD system. In the used Sierra we found, the engine specs are not listed, so it is difficult to determine which engine is present. The example we found gets power steering, power windows, AC and alloy wheels. Even though the SUV is almost 28 years old, it seems to be in good condition in the images. However, if you are genuinely interested, it’s best to check out the car in person to look for any issues.

Why Buy The OG Sierra?

Well, the appeal of the OG Sierra is one of a kind. Even though it is a rare sight to see on the streets, it is always an occasion when you spot one. One of the most unique design elements of the Sierra was its canopy glass roof. Even today, only a few SUVs get a panoramic glass roof, but they still cannot match the aura of the Sierra. Along with a unique exterior styling, the rear seat was also a talking point. Tata wanted to incorporate sofa-like comfort in its SUV. So, the brand offered a roomy rear cabin along with a bench seat for added comfort.

Tata’s first-ever SUV, and an attempt to provide premium features like standard AC, power windows, and power steering, was a first for any car in India at that time. The rugged design was complemented by its off-road capabilities. Built on the X2 platform, the SUV weighed over 1.5 tonnes, giving it a solid and rigid driving feel. This platform later underpinned legendary Tatas like the Safari, the Sumo, and the Estate.
