Upcoming Tata SUV – Launching Tomorrow
We are set to see a new SUV being launched tomorrow (20 February), and Tata has made some advertorials to build some hype for it. But in doing so, it has given us a thorough look at how the car would look and even key details about its feature list and powertrain.

We are talking about the Tata Punch.ev facelift. The automaker has not shied away from showing this car to the world, and there is very little suspense left about it. We already have a thorough idea about how the car would look on the outside, as well as on the inside. However, one mystery remains – the powertrain. And Tata could shock everyone in that regard with the Punch.ev facelift.

What’s New?

In this ad, Tata tests the Punch.ev’s range on a trip from Jaipur to Udaipur, which is roughly 400km. The main objective of the test is to see if the facelift can make this journey on a single charge. Before the start of the journey, the car was charged up to 100%. Tata tried to blur out the range, but we can spot that the figure is around 390 km.
The test was mostly conducted on highways, with a fair few downhill stretches. The Punch.ev was driven conservatively, as we can spot that it is set on Eco mode and on Level 2 Regeneration setting. During the test, the SUV was not pushed hard enough and was driven at moderate speeds. The range figures, if driven at higher speeds, would be lower. Moreover, the temperature was rather pleasant at 29 °C.
In this environment, the journey from Jaipur to Udaipur was successful, with 34% of charge left. The test didn’t stop there, and the car was driven until the battery was completely discharged. After a 193 km from reaching Udaipur, the Punch.ev finally gave out. This means that the Punch.ev went 593 km on a single charge.

Upcoming Tata SUV – Powertrain

With the facelift, it is very likely we will get a bigger battery pack, but the question remains: “Which battery pack would it be?”
Tata also offers 45kWh, 55kWh, and 65kWh battery packs on some of its other vehicles. The claimed ranges for these packs are 489km, 505km, and 538km, respectively. From this list, the only battery that is capable of touching these figures is the 65kWh pack. However, it is also important to note that the range for smaller, lighter cars is usually higher than that of larger cars. And it is very unlikely that Tata offer the massive 65kWh pack on a compact SUV like the Punch.ev. If we take Tata’s test into consideration, it is a 50-50 bet that either the 45kWh or the 55kWh would be offered with the facelift.

Other Updates

The design language remains similar to the outgoing model. The few updates that it gets are a revised front end and connected taillights. Moreover, you also get new colour options and alloy wheel design.
On the inside, the changes are minimal. The look of the cabin is identical, and you get the same-sized infotainment screen and digital driver’s display. We expect it to carry the same equipment list as the outgoing variant, including features like a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, electric ORVMs, an auto-dimming IRVM, an electric sunroof, and front ventilated seats. However, Tata could surprise us by offering a facelift with an ADAS suite.
