For the past few months, Toyota has had an impressive run in India. Its strategy of launching rebadged Maruti products under its portfolio is working well. To make more impact in India, Toyota launched its own iteration of India’s best-selling 7-seater, the Ertiga – as the Toyota Rumion. The plan, however, has not worked for the brand. And now, it seems that Toyota will finally replace the Rumion with a new 7-seater that was recently spotted in India!

Upcoming Toyota 7-Seater Spotted
The Toyota-Maruti partnership has so far worked for Toyota. However, its strategy of launching a rebadged Maruti Ertiga has not received the response Toyota would have imagined. Currently, Maruti is selling nearly 20,000 units of the Ertiga, while Toyota is managing to sell a maximum of 2,000 units of the Rumion every month. To compensate for the loss, Toyota is likely considering launching one of its global products in India!

Talking of which, we have received spy shots of the Toyota Avanza being tested in India! It is a 7-seater which was expected to arrive in the country before the Rumion. That said, it seems Toyota is now considering replacing the Rumion with a rather premium product. The test car was clicked at a distance, and only the rear profile was captured. But is Toyota really looking forward to launching the Avanza? Well, Toyota is known for testing cars in India, but that has been limited to other countries. So, it is yet not clear if the Avanza is on a similar page or if Toyota is serious this time. But what if Toyota really launches the Avanza in India? Will it make an impact that the brand expected from the Rumion?

Toyota Avanza Details

One of the key factors that has made the Ertiga a successful product is the space & price proposition. Maruti Ertiga is priced between Rs 10.30 lakh & Rs 15.33 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). At this price point, Ertiga offers a spacious cabin for all seven passengers. The Avanza can be a capable rival to the Ertiga, as the Toyota 7-seater has a similar wheelbase to the Ertiga and should offer a spacious cabin. Additionally, in global markets, the Avanza comes with features like an 8-inch touchscreen system, a 4-speaker sound system, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, 6 Airbags, rear camera and more. Now, the feature list may not sound exclusive, but at the same time, even the Ertiga is not popular for offering many features!

Globally, the Avanza comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine(104bhp & 138Nm) – paired with a manual & CVT gearbox options. And if Toyota decides to launch the Avanza in India, we can expect a similar configuration with slightly bumped power.

Overall, the Avanza, if launched, can bring Toyota the success it hoped for with the Rumion. It has everything that has made the Ertiga a popular product. And to ignore the fact that it will be a pure Toyota product, which will alone draw significant attention.
