Toyota Fortuner To Be Discontinued?

We are sure that Toyota’s announcement regarding discontinuing the diesel Crysta by 2027 has made you tense about the future of diesel in India. So, being asked about the same, Sabari Manohar (Toyota’s customer service group head) finally replied to Autocar. He said the diesel engine will continue to serve select segments. The select segment here includes cars such as Fortuner and Hilux. He added that there are many hardcore fans of diesel, and that diesel engines will continue.
That said, by 2027, after the introduction of CAFE 3 norms, Toyota will only be discontinuing its 2.4-litre diesel engine (Crysta). Only the 2.8-litre diesel engine will be kept running for Fortuner and Hilux fans. Manohar also added that customers primarily prefer the diesel-powered Fortuner for its torque, long-distance drivability, and rugged performance – and discontinuing it might cost the brand in the long run.
Now, the Fortuner fans, or should I say every auto enthusiast, might be happy with this decision of Toyota.

What Else?

To keep the 2.8-litre diesel engine alive, Toyota has already offered a mild-hybrid version with the Fortuner to meet the CAFE 3 norms. Apart from that, the brand is also investing in developing new EVs for the Indian market, as it recently unveiled the Urban Cruiser Ebella. And not to forget, about the Hycross (hybrid), which benefits the brand to meet the CAFE 3 norms.
