5. Toyota


Toyota has kicked off 2026 on a strong note, with its sales giving the year a great start. The Japanese automaker has reported sales of 30,630 units in January 2026. The Innova, including both the Hycross and Crysta have been Toyota’s most popular product. Alongside this, Hyryder also joined the list, with the unrivalled Fortuner continuing to remain a strong contributor to the overall sales. Interestingly, with Toyota’s recent unveiling of the All-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella, we can further expect the brand’s growth in the EV segment as well.

4. Hyundai


Hyundai has long been the talk of the town with its ever-popular Creta. And with plans to maintain the same intensity, Hyundai has recorded its best-ever sales performance in January 2026. The carmaker sold 59,107 units in the Indian market, showcasing a 9.5% year on growth. However, it’s not just Creta driving Hyundai’s sales, we also have the new-gen Venue selling over 12,413 units. The Aura also achieved its highest-ever monthly sales of 7,978 units, further adding to the milestone.

3. Mahindra


Mahindra takes the third spot with 63,510 units sold in January 2026. After a slower December 2025, Mahindra created a major buzz with the launch of the XUV 7XO. It received an impressive 93,689 bookings (including XEV 9S) in its first few hours. With the XUV 7XO added to Mahindra’s portfolio, we expect a major growth in Mahindra’s sales. But it is important to note that Mahindra’s other icons like the Thar, Scorpio N and Bolero continue to sell consistently, keeping the brand among the top choices for SUV buyers in India.

2. Tata


Next up we have Tata taking the second position with their record-breaking 70,222 unit sales in January 2026. Out of the total sales, we have our winner, the Nexon, leading the pack with 23,000 units sold in India. The Punch also had a stellar month, selling 19,000 units, marking the fastest 7 lakh cumulative sales in just 4.3 years. With the brand’s strong, exceptional performance in both ICE and EV versions, Tata continues to prove why it remains one of the most trusted automotive brands in India.
1. Maruti Suzuki


To noone’s shock, Maruti Suzuki is leading the sales chart as India’s best-selling brand in January 2026. The brand topped the list by selling 1,74,529 units, well ahead of its competitors. This is a 4-5% jump over the December sales. In January 2026, Maruti’s compact cars sold over 72,700 units, while the Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga, and XL6 sold 75,600 units, highlighting strong SUV and MPV demand among Indian buyers.
