Tata Curvv CNG – Is It Really Coming?

Last year, Tata was actively considering a CNG option with the Curvv. But later on, it just remained on paper. However, now is the right time for the automaker to bring a CNG option with the Curvv. Why? The Curvv, since its launch, has done moderately in terms of sales. But it might get hampered after the launch of Sierra. Here, a CNG option might come as a rescue option.

The Tata Curvv gets powered with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol (Revotron), 1.2-litre turbo petrol (Hyperion) and  a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The Indian automaker has already introduced the CNG option with its 1.2-litre turbo petrol (Revotron) mill on the Nexon. The same tech can be further introduced with the Curvv. The Tata’s iCNG tech has already gained popularity among the masses, and further introducing it with its coupe SUV might change the game for the brand.

At present, the Curvv is a premium model in Tata’s lineup. So, this might be why the automaker has not brought a CNG option in play till now. 

But Why CNG On Curvv & Not Sierra?

Many might think that, Curvv being a less demanded model, Tata would rather plan CNG with Sierra, right? As we have already said, Tata already has the tech with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol, and now can expand it.

On the contrary, the Sierra will again be a premium model in the lineup, even an iconic one. Moreover, the Sierra is currently expected to be powered with a trio of 1.5-litre engines in NA, Turbo Petrol and Diesel guise. This being a new engine, Tata might not plan to introduce CNG with it at present.

Apart from that, the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine will be offered with the Harrier & Sierra SUVs too. We expect to see some reshuffling in Tata’s lineup post the Sierra’s comeback.
